New perspective on the evolutionary potential of symbiotic interactions!

Is there something special about symbiosis that leads to new traits and adaptations? If so, how would we know and how would this work?

PERSPECTIVE: The evolutionary potential of symbiosis

Is symbiosis is a source of innovation? Which evolutionary mechanisms could explain how symbiosis drives or hinders innovation?

Fact check: false.

Eciton burchellii is the dominant predator force in the Western Hemisphere.
Ogles: "It's important that we have a stake in Greenland, that they are quite frankly a protectorate of the US. They've been in relationship with Denmark - that needs to end. We've spilled more blood protecting Greenland than the Danes... we are the dominant predator force in the Western Hemisphere"

If women are underrepresented in STEM, it's at least partly because men like this offer mentoring, then embarrass themselves by assuming their mentees must be into them, then decide the best solution is to cut ties, which sends the signal to other faculty that the mentee must not be good enough.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

Just an absolutely horrific self own, depleting the US of amazing students from all over the world who contributed to what used to make America great: its diversity, its openness, and its leadership in education.
The number of international students arriving in the U.S. in August fell by 19% this year compared with last year — the largest decline on record outside of the pandemic.

This is the best explanation of the weird new ant paper.
The paper has helpful diagrams and it's WILD. They clone the other species so they can produce sterile hybrid workers. It's like if a horse could occasionally give birth to a donkey deliberately so they can make mules to serve them while they sit on their... horse throne... as horse queens do.

It bears repeating that nearly the entire US enterprise in science and technology has been irreversibly gutted. This is shocking.

All this loss has occurred without any real benefit to the average US citizen. Except we now have the biggest, best funded secret police force perhaps ever.

Yay for us!

Without exaggeration, the last 50+ years of biological research completely discredits every race science claim. It is the single biggest indicator of being a malicious dullard and a reactionary ideologue. The fact I’ve had to dedicate a single minute of my career to addressing it is absurd
talking a lot about race-science shit, like IQ or “human biodiversity” or how bad affirmative action is, *should* be totally discrediting, a sign of lazy and shallow thinking that undermines anything else someone says

but there’s so much internalized racism among American elites that it’s not
internalizing american notions of race and ethnic division as timeless truths about the world is a shortcut to smoothing out your brain
