Eighth Circle: Needless Correctors
The souls in this circle often toured the other circles, mocking the poor souls who suffered there for their poor command of the English language.

This myth endures because it’s comforting. The idea that you can protect yourself from infection by taking something feels empowering. The supplement industry, now worth over $150 billion globally, thrives on that illusion.

🧵 Myth Busting Monday: “Vitamin supplements can help your immune system fight off viruses and bacteria.”
The idea that taking vitamin supplements can “boost” your immune system and help you fight infections has been around for decades. It feels intuitive but the science is far more nuanced.

Do NOT allow them to rewrite history with disinformation. #COVID vaccines worked remarkably well and allowed us to come out of a global pandemic. A picture is worth a thousand words.

One of the only interesting things about AI is finding out how many people in supposedly highly skilled, important jobs are complete fuckwits. Not just kinda stupid, but the level of stupid where they're the reason why we have the "remove cellophane before eating" warnings on Fruit Roll-Ups.

I would like these to replace every "Share the Road" sign in Massachusetts. It's not that I'm opposed to sharing the road, but we know drivers don't want to share, so I'd much prefer there's a sign telling them how they're legally required to operate around bikes

Solar energy has consistently been underestimated.

Today, it adds more capacity/yr to global grid than any other source in history.

If trend continues, solar will deliver more electricity generation/yr than any technology before it.

In the U.S. in 1825, *452* out of 1000 children born died before their 5th birthday.

By 1925, that number was 135 out of a 1000 children.

Today, in 2025, that number is *7*

And it is entirely due to advances in medicine, public health, and technology.

I think traffic engineering really is more counterintuitive than most things. It was a surprise even to professional planners how much adding highway capacity can make traffic worse.

Boston is doing some great stuff making crosswalks *look* more dangerous. If they look safer, drivers tune out.
