One point that may have been lost: I’ve never seen this ad before.

It’s only when I searched for Mexican folk music tonight that YouTube started running it.

Google’s surveillance technology has enabled the government to selectively terrorize specific groups in service of white supremacy.
Listening to Mexican folk music on Youtube and they're running this horrible ad urging people to self-deport.

Fuck you Kristi Noem, and fuck you Google for taking her money.

Huge news today, if you missed it; Chris Duncan was released from Louisiana prison after being wrongfully convicted for nearly three decades.

@psfrench.bsky.social wrote this devastating but important read this spring on Louisiana’s rush to kill Jim despite junk science.
The Human Cost of Jeff Landry’s Drive to Resume Executions - Bolts
Chris Duncan’s death sentence—built on the testimony of two discredited doctors—illustrates just how faulty the system can be.

8. CALLING BULLSHIT (Carl Bergstrom & Jevin West). I'm not really the target audience for this book, because, as @carlbergstrom.com can attest to, I already call bullshit on many things regularly. But it was a fun read all the same, entertaining, inquisitive, etc

THREAD: Judge Ellis is the first federal judge to review extensive body cam video of DHS's actions in Chicago. She finds that DHS *repeatedly* misled the public and made claims that were disproven by agents' own videos.

I'll go through some of the most egregious ones here.

There has also been an alarming growth in contact logs: from 16% in 2022 to 28% this year.

Contact logs are complaints that are closed for various reasons, which may or may not be valid.

This is The Discovery Institute’s plan in action.

DI’s Robert Marbut was Trump’s homelessness Czar and this is his vision verbatim.
'In limiting spending on long-term housing to just 30 percent of the $3.5 billion in aid — from about 90 percent this year — the Trump plan would deal a crippling blow to a movement called Housing First."
This is far worse than anyone expected.

Trump's HUD plan would cut *two-thirds* of permanent housing and push as many as 170,000 formerly homeless people back onto the street—redirecting funds to work mandates, forced treatment, and encampment sweeps.

All as mass internment camps are being built.

Wilson's win means an end to heavy-handed corporate patronage in the mayor's office going back to 2013, a lineage running from the serial child predator who resigned in disgrace to the mayor who inherited all his donors & teargassed the city, to the guy who supported both of them to the bitter end

Fun fact, local sex pest dave meinert (owner of huckleberry square and mecca and 5 point) joined Burien’s lawsuit to overturn the voter passed minimum wage increase.

His lawyer’s argument was “it’s not like we don’t want to pay our employees”

meinert recently settled a wage theft lawsuit 🤔
And don’t forget the role restaurant owners play in trying to suppress the minimum wage
If you didn’t know, Seattle restaurant owners and consultants have been fighting against street food and food truck reforms for decades.

Our regulatory environment is why until now, Seattle has not really developed a street food culture like Portland (or many other cities).

The Trump administration is restricting the number of refugees it admits annually into the country to 7,500 and they will mostly be white South Africans
Trump Sets Annual Limit For Refugees To 7,500 — And They'll Mostly Be From This 1 Country
No reason was given for the numbers, which are a dramatic decrease from last year’s ceiling set under the Biden administration of 125,000.
