Today I’m grateful for every human that remembers that genAI is not a credible source, nor are most of the sources they are trained on, nor is our current federal government, nor is the random post someone found on social media. Expertise exists, and matters now more than ever, even when complex.

Nicole Good’s killing demonstrates what women everywhere and in every era have always known — that being perceived as a “fucking bitch” by a man can get you killed and will even be used to justify your murder to show that you “had it coming.”

Related, librarians as a class do not support social justice or DEI. Because most librarians will cave at the thought of someone in power being mad at them before they'll stand up for someone unlike them.

(for those outside the field: it has been near 90% white for decades, this isn't an accident)

Yes, yes, ya'll!
Another new book is out, this time with Queens Dr. Colon-Aguirre Monica, Dr. Aisha M. Johnson, and Stacy Collins. My eternal thanks to this dream team, publisher Dr. Bharat Mehra, and all of the whip smart contributors who made this volume possible!

And if I were to write a “rebuttal” using cherry picked citations and vibes to this would I too get published in CRL? Or is that only for bigoted opinions?
If you read this article at a superficial level, it's confusing.

If you try to really understand what's being said, it's probably the most intellectually dishonest article I've seen since.... the last time I read a piece of conservative media that pretended to be moderate, I guess?

Small colleges have taken the lead -- but they are now joined by 6 of 8 Ivies: Cornell, Penn, Princeton, Yale, Brown, and -- yes -- Harvard.

And, finally, by a handful of big publics: U. of Washington, Wisconsin, Rutgers, SUNY Buffalo and Stony Brook, UC Riverside, UVa, UMD.
A powerful call has just gone up on the website of the @aacu.org : “A Call for Constructive Engagement” signed by almost 200 college & university presidents (more sure to join), from community colleges to R1s! #academicsky #edusky @academic-chatter.bsky.social www.aacu.org/newsroom/a-c...

The nonbinary gender option has been removed from FAFSA applications.

This is what's called a 'dysaffordance:' nonbinary students will now be forced to select an option that doesn't reflect who they really are, potentially causing gender dysphoria, in order to complete the application.

Librarians and related folks - Send your emails TODAY. A couple of sentences will do.
#DidThisToday
Wrote the LoC to say that the Gulf of Mexico, as an international body of water, cannot be legally renamed unilaterally and that therefore the LoC will be participating in a violation of international protocols or even laws by publishing this change.
Also encourage people to email LC to oppose this proposed revision, which was announced a few hours ago (with comments deadline of today 😡).

Your email can be short (1-3 sentences) and can focus on impact to your patrons. #critcat #LCSH #cataloging 📚

Librarians aren't going to save us. Librarians aren't superheroes.

They're just people trying to keep largely underfunded and overwhelmed public services going.

Praise is nice; realistic expectations are better; material support is best.
