Another species no longer on the global Endangered list:
Humpback whales (Megaptera novaeangliae).

A few decades after a Star Trek movie where the central conflict was the total extinction of the humpback, their numbers are rising fast enough to put them at "Least Concern" on the IUCN Red List.

In defence of the Dems, it is basically impossible to play chicken with somebody who is eager to crash their car into yours, and will go well out of their way in order to do so.

My humble foreigner's opinion is that this is the narrative that Dem voters should pursue, instead of "our team are feckless morons". Hang the whole thing on Trump, then hang Trump on the GOP in the midterms next year.

Always interesting to see where we do and don't believe in state's rights.

Gorsuch finally starting to understand what they have unleashed

Yep. The hot-take machine is moving at warp speed today. Everybody, everywhere is rushing (with a speed that is even dazzling in internet terms) to control the narrative about yesterday's elections, when it'll actually be a minute before anybody has a good sense of what's up.
So far I have the Economist, Matt Yglesias, Ross Douthat and of course The Telegraph (lol) cautioning that the Democrats are learning the wrong lesson from yesterday. We have no idea (a) what lessons have been learned, (b) whether Democrats would follow them, and (c) if they are the wrong lessons.

There is a meaning to the fact that Dreher cites here and it's this: religious pluralism is great! Qualified people can become leaders in our society without having to abandon or dissemble about their religious faith! Score one for pluralistic liberalism over laïcité or ethno-religious nationalism!
Rod Dreher is a racist.

He’s not an intellectual or thought leader or whatever BS.

He’s a gutter racist authoritarian, and there’s nothing else to him.

"where the Democrats can never win" **even though they are obviously the majority party**
Trump is the bond villain revealing his plan. To turn the US into a one party state where the Democrats can never win.
Trump: "They're gonna make DC a state and they're gonna make Puerto Rico a state. So now they pick up two states, four senators. They're gonna pick up electoral votes. It's gonna be a very, very bad situation. Now, if we do what I'm saying, they'll most likely never obtain power."

This is just the centre and left-wing (and frankly sane right-wing) version of "no enemies to our left", and it's the only correct response to the rising wave of global fascism.
i call this view 'reactionary centrism' - the problem with it is that modern fascism *cannot* be appeased; they don't want a few compromises in women's sports, they want a total social transformation and the end of liberal democracy

you give them a bone, then another, then they want your arm

"Those corporate contributions total more than the $437,000 fundraising gap between the United Conservatives ($1.63 million) and the NDP ($1.19 million) in this year’s third quarter, according to newly released figures from Elections Alberta."

Awesome.

If we've learned anything from the past couple of decades watching US politics it's for sure that lots of corporate and union money in politics works out great and doesn't radically undermine democracy.

With Smith deploying the notwithstanding clause on one front & setting up more…

We asked @duanebratt.bsky.social at our live show for his assessment & whether or not Alberta is becoming more and more authoritarian.

His answer should be required for all Albertans!

Cuomo during the campaign: I'm the only man tough enough to stand up to the evil Donald Trump!

Cuomo on election eve: I hope New Yorkers all listen to my good friend Donald Trump and heed his advice to vote for me!
"The president is right: a vote for Sliwa is a vote for Mamdani," Cuomo says on 77WABC radio in response to Trump's words of support just posted on Truth Social.

"Now it's gonna be up to the Republicans, and I hope they listen to the president," he adds.

Another big endorsement for Andrew Cuomo. And it only cost $959 million in tax breaks.

Yes. The reason the UCP used the notwithstanding clause against the teachers was to set a precedent.
Pay very close attention…

Danielle Smith is using extreme examples to normalize the use of the notwithstanding clause.
