I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others

Humanist | Emergency+Addiction Medicine | Health policy and advocacy | Health technology and innovation | Views my own (he/him)

Hi new friends, welcome!
I’m an emergency medicine and addiction medicine physician interested in health policy and advocacy. I post about harm reduction and the intersection between politics and health and healthcare, and my otherwise meandering thoughts of political despair.
I keep saying this over and over again to anyone who will listen.

Do not listen to or ever trust the people who spent decades building the monster that is now beyond their control.
The Lincoln Project is just one big grift.

This is the second pediatric #flu death I've seen in 2 days. I'm so sorry for the pain their families must feel. Unclear if either was vaccinated but odds are they were not, as most such deaths are in unvaccinated children.

I've told my colleagues in Germany it's not safe to travel here.

I don't think most Americans have a fucking clue how mad everyone is with the US.

It will not be fixed by one election.

Permanent damage. Generational.
Talking with people at a holiday gathering here in Toronto last night, and when it came up, most of us nodded that we likely won’t ever visit the United States again.

It’s a weird feeling, and weird to acknowledge in a group.

I spent my year of fellowship in Health Policy and Advocacy studying and writing about the effects of private equity on health care.

That was right after the Hahnemann hospital buyout by Silicon Valley private equity and subsequent closure and sale for parts, including all of the residency slots.
For roughly the past 20 years, private equity firms have been on a medical facility buying spree—more than 22% of all for-profit hospitals—only to unload them a few years later. And they often leave devastation in their wake. trib.al/vdCqzLC

Lyme is one of many health problems caused & exacerbated by manmade climate change. A legitimate health secretary would acknowledge that.

We actually had a pretty good Lyme vaccine but antivaxxers lied & said it gave people knee pain (it didn’t but knee pain?) & got manufacturer to pull it in 2002.
You know what, shitbird? I have an idea. What about a VACCINE?

There are several in late stages of development.

Will you promote them so we can get “children back into the woods” as you say?

Last week, Marco Rubio and the State Department revoked visas for five Europeans—including Imran Ahmed, a legal permanent resident in the US married to a US citizen—because they don't like their speech about disinformation.
