This is timely
With Trump reportedly planning to end the IRS Direct File program, there's no better time to remember how TurboTax owner Intuit spent two decades fighting to prevent Americans from filing their taxes online for free.

Inside TurboTax’s 20-Year Fight to Stop Americans From Filing Their Taxes for Free
Using lobbying, the revolving door and “dark pattern” customer tricks, Intuit fended off the government’s attempts to make tax filing free and easy, and created its multi-billion-dollar franchise.

You could say they're about national security, but then why would you tariff everything? It could be about manufacturing, but why then tariff vanilla from Madagascar? It could be about reciprocity, but why aren't they tailored to the specific tariffs that other countries have?

Three years ago.
You wouldn't know from reading this New York Times story about Trump punishing the University of Pennsylvania for trans athletes that there are no trans athletes on women's teams at the University of Pennsylvania because the New York Times didn't find that detail worth including

An FT study confirms that was a lie: Democrats are typical for Western democracies, and MAGA and Musk are _nearly off the chart_.

I saw one of the Germans language ones in a small museum in Lancaster County PA where the majority of the immigrants in 1776 were the Pennsylvania Dutch - which was a mispronunciation of Deutsch or German. They spoke and read German and very little English.
Since the president has signed an EO making English the official language of the United States, here is the first non-English copy of the Declaration of Independence, printed in German just days after July 4, 1776. We have always been multilingual.
