Emma Pattee’s TILT is out in paperback today and I fully expect it to become a NYT bestseller!

On the surface it’s a page-turner about a 8 month pregnant woman trying to find her husband after The Big One hits PDX. But it’s so much more than that.

Highly recommend! Go read immediately! #booksky

If a random adult man shows up unannounced to a daycare demanding to see other people’s children, you might assume he’d be arrested, and yet
White dude with camera arrives at daycare and demands to see kids.

Daycare workers keep doors and windows closed.

White dude alleges fraud.

Every Republican backs white dude.

That's the current story in Minnesota.

The first bird you see in a new year can set the tone for the year ahead.

I wrote this essay about my favorite birding tradition (superstition?) for Orion a year ago and wanted to reshare.

I want to hear about your first birds! Don’t forget to look.

In America, where irony is dead, a hotel chain uses a policy denying shelter to local people, for fear of accidentally housing homeless persons…

To deny a reservation to the author of a much-lauded book on how American economic unfairness forces working people into homelessness.
A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

Just as in the case of Jimmy Kimmel's suspension, a consumer backlash is now underway: CBS fans are hearing about the "60 Minutes" imbroglio and calling/emailing local CBS stations to register their concerns. "We have no real support," a reporter at one of those stations told me.

I’m trying to actually use my camera more. These photos of a hawk being mobbed by crows was too blurry (a lesson to double check shutter speed!) but I still like the drama of it.

My mom was part of a successful class action lawsuit against Home Depot in the 1990s for gender discrimination. They’ve always been bad.
“A Home Depot in Los Angeles installed three high-pitch noise-emitting machines outside to deter day laborers from seeking work there, causing them to suffer headaches and nausea, advocates alleged at a press conference on Wednesday.”

I just emailed my senators urging them to vote against HR 845, disingenuously referred to as the “pet and livestock” act.

It would federally delist the grey wolf and allow states to “manage” the species how they want. This would be a free-for-all in any state with livestock interests.

I started the sexy hockey show and it’s so good. It’s what I wanted movies like Babygirl to be.

The consent plus hotness factor and how the 🌶️ scenes plays into the development of the relationship between the leads is so well done.
