From an Evanston resident filming an arrest at Oakton/Asbury ~an hour ago:

"He was being very violent with her, I said ‘You got to stop that,’ and he said, ‘Step back or I’ll fucking shoot you.‘ I step back, and then I continue to record, at which point he turned around and pointed a gun at me.”

New in PN: Trump couldn't (legitimately) win a third term If he tried

"What’s astonishing about the media’s 'third term' coverage is how it doesn’t clearly state the obvious: Voters are openly rejecting Trump, as seen in poll after poll."

During a heated debate, Katie Miller, wife to Stephen Miller, suggested that her co-panelist on the show, progressive commentator Cenk Uygur, should be deported. “You better check your citizenship application and hope that everything was legal and correct,” she said.

Miller also accused Uygur of being antisemitic toward her, despite Uygur making no mention of her faith or ethnicity.

Trump isn’t the sharpest knife in the drawer, but even he knows Republicans could’ve kept the government open all along.

Now he wants the Senate to nuke the filibuster to fix the mess he made, because red states are getting hit hardest & their voters are getting too loud to ignore. Today’s day 31.

1. An authoritarian stifles dissent and speech.
2. An authoritarian persecutes political opponents.
3. An authoritarian bypasses the legislature.
4. An authoritarian uses the military for domestic control.

This is what "not the odds, but the stakes" was all about.

During the 2024 campaign, those 12 markers could have been in place and operating to guide news coverage everywhere.

My great grandparents fled Tsarist Russia as teenagers to build a better life for themselves in America. Almost every Jewish family in America, including Katie and Stephen Miller, share this background. I'm not sure how people like the Millers lost their way, but it breaks my heart to see. 1/x

Wild - when she wasn’t throwing around unhinged antisemitism claims she was threatening to have her husband denaturalize & deport @cenkuygur

In the 33 years before the U.S. halted nuclear testing in 1992, countries conducted over 1,000 tests. In the 33 years since? Roughly 20. The global moratorium—and the treaty backing it—has curbed both the spread and sophistication of nuclear weapons worldwide.

Legally, this is no different from Iran sinking a Disney cruise in international waters and then saying "it's all good, they were terrorists carrying drugs."

Which is to say, it's wholly illegal and has been for centuries. You couldn't even do this with a Letter of Marque and Reprisal.
Another illegal US maritime strike—again in the Pacific.

Against a vessel allegedly operated by an unspecified "designated terrorist organization."

Four reported fatalities—dubbed w/o ID or evidence "narco-terrorists."

There's a word for premeditated killings outside of armed conflict.
