It's almost as if the Enlightenment figures who founded the US had learned the lessons of Europe's wars of religion and created a secular state that would both protect worshippers from political interference, AND protect the polity from becoming dominated by religious sectarians.

If we're not at war, Pete Hegseth is a murderer. If we are at war, Pete Hegseth is still a murderer. He's a murderer. And you don't need to go to The Hague to hold him accountable because there are perfectly good, American laws AGAINST MURDER.

Pete Hegseth Should Be Charged With Murder
No matter how you look at the strikes on alleged “drug boats”—as acts of war or attacks on civilians—Hegseth has committed a crime and should be prosecuted.

This does not sit well for the American people. Our gut is telling us something is wrong here.

The question comes up over and over again: if there’s nothing to hide, then why is the President engaged in such a clear cover up and pressure campaign of Members of Congress?

I stand in solidarity with the Starbucks workers on strike.

When a corporation can pay $96 million to its CEO for just four months of work, it can afford to pay its workers a living wage and decent benefits.

American Exceptionalism is a lie that keeps a country's citizens complacent. There is nothing great about a country that has great wealth, yet so many go hungry. There is nothing great about a country that will jail the poor for minor offenses, yet elevate wealthy pedophiles to the Presidency.

History has taught us that this is precisely when Donald Trump is most dangerous — and when Republicans turn to voter suppression, election subversion and worse. With the 2026 midterm elections less than a year away, Trump is already plotting his next moves. www.democracydocket.com/opinion/what...

The playbook of demagogues like Trump is to protect the Oligarchs by dividing us up based on race, religion, place of birth or sexual orientation.

They want us to hate each other while they laugh all the way to the bank.

Don’t fall for it.

The mass starvation & killing of Palestinians in Gaza at the hands of the Israeli gov’t is a chillul hashem, a desecration of God.

Jewish leaders who criticized Zohran Mamdani for three words he doesn’t use should raise their voices loudly here as well.

Gaza is starving. Where are the American Jewish leaders?
A fear of being labelled antisemitic still deters American Jews and Jewish institutions from taking a position that is morally correct.

I think a lot about how much a student protest movement nationwide could have done to save some of these colleges and universities, or at least to slow their capitulation, if administrators hadn't already put in overtime to expel the politically active kids and get them arrested.

The Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case appears to constitute the rare controversy in which there are no innocuous explanations for what has unfolded. The possibilities range from bad to worse for everyone involved.

The differences between the “Abundance” and corporate power crowds are real enough. But this debate obscures the larger divide in Democratic politics: how to reconnect with an angry working class. From Harold Meyerson:
The Real Democratic Civil War
It’s not so much about ‘abundance’ as it is about how to reconnect with a justifiably angry working class.

That's when I realized why Dems are toothless. They have no idea what this is. Frogs boiling in water.
