My old friend was hanging out in the sail loft instead of on the ship as he usually is. This paint job is in incredible shape considering it has been getting beaten up by the ocean and the weather for FOUR YEARS. Hardly a scratch!

Made some good progress today! He is coming along!
Leo, a wooden lion figurehead on a couple sawhorses at the shipyard. He has been painted bright red. Some shading has been added to accentuate his features. There are various ropes and spars in the background. Leo, viewed from slightly below so his face is visible. His mouth is open and his paws are holding onto the sawhorse in a very cute way.

The need for practice drawings to look "good" is what keeps most artists from practicing at all.

Experiment. Try different approaches. Embrace the bad. It's supposed to be messy and unknown.

That's what practice is.
