If I were Dem leadership, I’d get all my members to wear rotating, matching T-shirts under their suit jackets calling this stuff out. R in the White House means less jobs. Recessions. Wars. Higher debt. More unemployment. Every time. It writes itself!

Before the midterms of 1866, President Andrew Johnson called his congressional opponents traitors and said they should be hanged.

Voters were so profoundly moved by his words... that they gave his opponents a supermajority in Congress, and the nation got the Fourteenth Amendment.

The President of the United States just called for Democratic members of Congress to be executed. "HANG THEM", he posted.

If you're a person of influence in this country and you haven't picked a side, maybe now would be the time to pick a fucking side.

I’m still thinking about “quiet, piggy.” No president should be able to speak to a member of the press that way and remain president. That moment encapsulates how vile, misogynistic, and horrible that man is.

All things equal it is pretty funny that he campaigned on the one thing that could bring him down because he thought he could bully his party and his base into dropping it at the snap of a finger. Like this wasn’t foisted upon him, he CAMPAIGNED on it.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

This is really good to see: Miki Sherrill just put out a statement sharply criticizing the Senate Dems' pending cave in the government shutdown, ripping it as "malpractice" and a betrayal of the people who are "counting on us to fight for them." Sherrill knows what drove her victory. Wake up, Dems.

Trump's tariffs are hurting us in two ways:

First, the obvious: Higher costs → either lower profits or higher prices.

Second, more subtle (perhaps bigger): We’ve signaled we’re an unreliable partner, so allies are reorganizing supply chains to avoid us. That's hard to unwind.

Shapiro: He rose to some prominence by writing a book about growing up in Appalachia, where there are a whole lot of people who get SNAP. He made millions of dollars off telling their stories, and then he turned his damn back on those very people he likes to write about and claim as his own.

Never in the history of the US has any president openly and repeatedly called for the investigation, arrest & prosecution of his political opponents. While many continue to shrug these things off and normalize them, I will never stop pointing out that this is what autocrats do.

Yes, I care greatly about the outcome of the midterms, but if you’re not feeling urgency to speak out and push back every day between then and now, you’re missing the gravity of this moment.

“Previous shutdowns were fought over specific grievances.” But now the “real issue is Trump’s challenge to Congress’s constitutional taxing and spending powers,” @davidfrum.bsky.social argues.
The Shutdown Is a Knife at a Gunfight
The two sides may forge a deal, but what difference will it make to a president who doesn’t respect Congress at all?

I don't understand how anyone can make the case that we still have constitutional government at this point. The president is collecting revenue *AND* spending money without Congressional authorization, refusing to spend money that Congress appropriated, disobeying whatever laws he feels like.

Today, Mike Johnson will keep the House adjourned for the 81st day out of the last 93.

12 days of work in over 3 months.

With full pay and benefits.

The senate has been working, so this is not about the shutdown.

It is about avoiding a vote to release the Epstein files.
