Historically, white sharks sat at the top of the food web, keeping Cape fur seals and sevengill sharks in check.
Now that white sharks have disappeared…
Seals & sevengills have increased in abundance.
Small schooling fish & benthic sharks are declining.

De 2000 a 2024, a região perdeu 87 mil km² dessas áreas protegidas. Levantamento da InfoAmazonia revela que legislação sobre proteção das unidades de conservação sofreu 60 alterações no período. Atualmente, sete propostas ainda tramitam no Congresso Nacional e na Justiça. Caso sejam aprovadas, poderão impactar mais 13.448 km².
