A man has been taken to hospital after being bitten by a wobbegong shark while spearfishing in WA's South West.
Witnesses say the shark clamped onto the man's forearm and was stabbed multiple times before it let go.

Fisheries kill around 265,000 rays each year, researchers estimate - mostly in small-scale fisheries. Risk is highest in India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Peru, and Myanmar. Reef manta rays are particularly vulnerable to overfishing: their rate of reproduction is slow.

More whales are getting caught in fishing and shark nets off Australia’s East Coast. 🐋 🇦🇺

48 separate entanglements of humpback whales have been recorded in the past few months on the East Coast. This follows last year’s estimate of 45 entangled whales.

New paper finds rampant illegal shark fin trafficking, despite >100 threatened sharks and rays being listed on CITES in the past 20 years.

ICYMI: I wrote about a proposed law that would ban using bait or chum to attract sharks to scuba divers. Critics of this practice claim that it’s bad for sharks, and unsafe for humans- including the *next* humans who encounter the shark that divers fed.
