What’s all the commotion around e-bikes?

Advocates say e-bikes are great for commuting, easing congestion and making bicycling more accessible — plus, they're more environmentally friendly than gas-powered cars. Critics worry that e-bikes travel too fast on multi-use paths with pedestrians.

Parents are eager for their teenage children to learn to drive so they don't have to continue to chauffeur them around but a lot of kids are nervous about getting on the road. Offering transportation choices would be a great way to solve this! www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-driver...

HB 4007, a bill currently being considered in the Oregon Legislature (it goes up for a vote to get out of committee tomorrow!), creates much-needed definitions and regulations for what are known as micromobility devices.

You've probably been hearing a lot about “Micromobility Devices." Are you too scared to ask what that means? The past few years have seen dramatic growth in the use of powered micromobility devices, e-bikes & e-scooters. Legislative action is needed to ensure these devices can be used safely.

These imposters are being deceptively sold and marketed to Oregon consumers, resulting in avoidable crashes and injuries. Right now, Oregon has no consistent requirements around the sale and use of these devices.

What are imposter bikes, and why can they cause problems when we're trying to lessen car dependance and increase access to alternatives?

Imposter bikes are devices capable of exceeding the maximum speed requirements for e-bikes.

Rush hour looks different from the seat of a bike. With a few extra layers and bike lights, a commute home or quick errand can shift from a frustrating necessity to a time of active, unexpected discovery. PBOT works year-round to install more bike routes across the city, making bike trips safer and easier. Last summer, we buffered and widened the bike lane on NE Broadway as part of the NE Broadway Pave & Paint project. Now, Portlanders on bikes have a more comfortable east-west connection through Northeast Portland. Stay tuned! Tomorrow, we’ll share the final installment of this three-part bike story.
