Football ("soccer"), running, cycling, urbanism, dadjokes, politics. Hopeful nonprofit wordslinger, occasional scribe for hire.
My last four days:
* Friday, 20 miles at Critical Mass on the gravel bike
* Saturday, 41 miles to/from Stone Mtn. with a roadie group
* Sunday, 12 miles, two mountain-bike loops at Ft. Yargo State Park
* Today, 8.5 early-a.m. miles running errands on the e-bike.

My legs are sore! But I'm happy.

Two years ago I interviewed a 31-year-old NY state assemblymember about a 7-year-old girl killed by an SUV driver in his district. I hung up the phone, astonished that I'd talked to a legislator who so thoughtfully articulated what actually needs to change on our streets.

He'll make a great mayor

An all-timer today in the "don't be nice, be predictable" sweepstakes when interacting with drivers on the road as a cyclist. So I'm waiting for a break in traffic in order to pedal out from my driveway, and a car stops dead in the road. I stare at it, trying to determine intent.

📣 Come visit Propel ATL's booth at Atlanta Streets Alive this Sunday, 2-6 p.m.!

⁉️ "Where's my project?" is the powerful question we're asking ahead of the May 20 Atlanta Department of Transportation budget briefing and May 21 public hearing.

We’ll have two interactive ways for you to engage:

Yet another cool milestone on my ebike. Roughly 95% of these miles (over the last 15 months) directly replace car trips.

One of the best pieces of local reporting over the last year (if not THE best.) Thrilled to see it recognized and (belatedly!) making some waves.

@urbanizeatl.bsky.social Not sure who needs to get this but the "magic link" login is not working. I put in my (pre-registered) email, get the email with the link, then when I click I am told that it's an invalid link.

I had been doubtful that we were going to have a "this is the crisis moment" with Trump, as opposed to "everything about this is a destructive catastrophe."

But the Abrego Garcia case is the crisis moment.

The regime is clearing out everyone in the military who's not a loyalist in preparation for martial law. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

I was going to get the train today. But I am increasingly concerned at the deficit I’m running with Great Northern Rail. I buy a lot from them and they purchase nothing from me.
Tempted to apply a 20% tariff. Sure my tickets will cost 20% more but it might mean I buy fewer and reduce the deficit.

We are very close to a near cure for two of the highest-mortality cancers we know: glioblastoma and pancreatic cancer. These are both mRNA based treatments which are losing their funding during stage I and II trials. Thousands will die needlessly because of this motherfucker and his lies.

The New York Times is the first to put out comprehensive estimates on the cost of a year without U.S.A.I.D. and they’re higher than I thought:
- 1.65 million deaths from AIDS
- 500,000 from lack of vaccines
- 550,000 from lack of food aid
- 290,000 from malaria
- 310,000 from TB
Killing children is by design, I'm afraid. "Pro-natalists" like Musk claim they aren't racist, but their pressure to have children is solely focused on white women, while they back policies that literally kill of non-white children.

He's a eugenicist.

A journey through the front lines of global poverty shows that when the world’s richest men slash aid for the world’s poorest children, the result is sickness, starvation and death.

This is why we can't have nice things, and why @thewaroncars.bsky.social is becoming less of a tongue-in-cheek title with each passing day. So GA DOT literally installed this RRFB (on-demand pedestrian crossing signal) two weeks ago.

Kash Patel wants to criminally charge groups who received EPA grants for climate change projects. You know, like those greedy bastards at Habitat for Humanity.

He thinks climate change isn't real, so he thinks these groups have committed fraud.

Which of course is fucking crazy.
