Need to send a robot bicycle up and down the Jackson/10th separated bike lanes in downtown St Paul that continually gets creamed by all the cars pulling out of parking garages without looking or turning across the path without yielding. They should explode just large enough to total your car.

I'm simultaneously like "biking to work is easy and nice and everyone should do it" and "wow I only made it to work ok from years of bike messenger and alley cat skillz - if I didn't get super cutty five times I would have been a pancake".
"Claire Thefaine agreed about feeling unsafe on a bike...
“I have not had a single day without an incident that has left me shaken up. It can be grating to hear the people around me discussing standstill traffic on their commute when I fear for my safety and life every day on mine.”

Detours to nowhere, bicyclist close calls: reports from a tough summer for commuters
The Minnesota Star Tribune asked readers to talk about their worst commutes amid all the road construction. Here is a sampling of what they said.

Bikes are generally very resilient to road construction / closures but good lord getting out of downtown Saint Paul is a chore.

Every major N-S street you encounter in St Paul is prioritized so cars can get to the highway. Can't find a single good E-W road where I don't get a minute long red light at every single intersection. 🙄

Need Mythbusters to figure out if cycling to work fast/effortful or slow/chill in AQI 230 is worse.

Twin Cities drivers currently feel *especially* oppressed, saying the war on cars has ramped up because it temporarily takes 35 minutes instead of 20 to drive across the most dense part of the largest metro area in a 400 mile radius (and might have to park 500 ft from their end location).

People who think we have actual traffic in the Twin Cities think Pizza Luce is good pizza.

Lol
Started thinking about the state of the nation during the school drop-off drive, forgot where I was going, almost ran a red light and got completely lost. It's a 3-minute drive. So, just a word of warning: for vehicular safety, do not itemize your shitlist while driving.

Future #mspcyclecast fish hatchery trail in St Paul will be closed april-october 2025. Make sure you bring your spinny gear (or climbing legs) for the detour!

Fuckin boomers ruining the next hundred years for us because they'll have to spend their last ten living near an apartment building that "doesn't fit the neighborhood character".

Decided to see what taking the bus (21) was like today, going from Powderhorn to DT St Paul, which is a 35 minute bike ride on a bad day (8 mi). Morning bus was on time and took 55min, so 62min w/ walk n wait. Evening ride was a 25min wait (wtf) and took 1hr 16min (wtf), so 2hr 45min total. (1/3)

#MSPcyclecast wow it is pretty bad out there lol I have no recommendations 😂 though people seem a bit more patient when you're biking with a bocquet. got nudged by a car rolling thru a stop sign (greenway crossing 21st) but I gave them an earful.

... and just recently we spent $250M to redo this highway interchange in the middle of our city, reaffirming the status quo of cars over people.

Nearly 40 years later here we are with the same ridiculous car infrastructure cutting through the center of our downtown.

Sometimes your bike ride yields the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees and other times you're stuck with winter saint paul bike lanes and shitty drivers 🤷♀️
