No need to delay: Not only did the Board of Elections clearly state that they are ready and capable of implementing ranked choice voting, but the voters already told us how they "assessed the need" by overwhelmingly passing it at the ballot box.
NEWS: Ward 7 Councilmember Wendell Felder is introducing emergency legislation that would delay ranked-choice voting, which is currently set to be rolled out in D.C. in 2026. His bill would mandate that Board of Elections conduct an assessment on what it would need to implement RCV.

A low-hanging fruit for @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social and the new City Council in their first 100 days would be to approve legislation making outdoor dining year round and have it go into effect immediately. Given all the existing design regulations it should be easy to flip the switch on this.
Thousands of outdoor dining areas might not return to the city's roadways next spring, the result of what activists call a costly approval process created by the Adams administration when the program became seasonal.
Outdoor Dining Has Faded Out — And Not Just Because It's Winter - Streetsblog New York City
From thousands of pandemic-era eateries to perhaps just a few hundred, thanks to a seasonal, not year-round, program.

Downside; I won't get to vote against her my first time voting in DC.
Upside; literally everything else.

I know what I'm thankful on Thursday.
Quite the pre-Thanksgiving news: Mayor Muriel Bowser will not seek a fourth term in office. That's a huge opening a mayoral race that still doesn't have any major candidates in it, but with possible entries from Ward 4 Councilmember Janeese Lewis George and At-Large Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie.

Not having to worry about Black Friday and the whole holiday shopping season...
Priceless.
At my first job, it wasn't really a thing. But in 2021 I experienced it first hand, working at KB Toys. For the next 15 or so years, it was an annual nightmare.
Corporate retail sucks.

Duffy is a completely unserious person who is focusing on this because he has undone all the Airline Passenger Rights enacted under Biden and Buttigieg and he doesn't want people to focus on that. Ironic, of course, because if you're delayed you're going to want some comfy clothes and shoes.
Duffy on his demand that air travelers not wear slippers or pajamas: "It honors our country ... don't take your shoes off and put your feet on the chair ahead of you"

This situation is becoming an increasing issue for those on the vendor/supplier/operator side of travel because AI literacy is low even among seasoned travelers and social media users. It is increasingly easy to get duped or not realize that your source is AI-generated.

An imagined town in Peru, an Eiffel tower in Beijing: travellers are increasingly using tools like ChatGPT for itinerary ideas – and being sent to destinations that don't exist.

I think a lot about how stupid 80s cartoon villains did so much to prepare me for the now we're all living through...the dumbest timeline.
But I was just thinking about someone I used to play a lot of Warhammer against, who CONSTANTLY cheated...but was so bad, he still lost. Every time.
Huh.
