3/4 My chapter explores the control of and access to news and information and the role of journalism in both democratic and authoritarian societies. (I know I went overboard on footnotes.) Some of the content may have seemed dated last year but is now highly relevant again. #journalism

Yet again a pup is at risk because their human lost their home. This should never happen pets or humans, but it keeps happening. Let’s find a foster and save Summer so her humane doesn’t have that grief on top of housing insecurity.

This is the ur-grift: it’s not the get-rich-quick scheme that makes you rich, it’s teaching other people how to sell it to someone else.
To be very clear, that lady in the NYT article is not making any money with her hundreds of AI slop books.

She makes money by *convincing people* she makes money that way and getting them to pay her to teach them how to do it.

It's an evolved MLM, and the NYT is helping market it.

I really hate that whenever I see something with a congrats, happy bday, condolences, etc., for a white male public figure whose work I have admired, I now immediately wonder if they are in the Epstein files before sharing, commenting, or simply vicariously enjoying the praise.

I’m tempted to turn this into a writing exercise and see if my journalism students can improve it.
Hey man. You work at a newspaper. Have some self respect and try to write at least one sentence that doesn’t feel like sandpaper on my eyeballs.

NEW: A baby held in immigration detention became so sick, she had to be rushed to a hospital in severe respiratory distress.

“She was at the brink of dying,” a lawyer told me.

But the girl didn’t go home after her 10-day hospital stay; instead, ICE put her and her mother back in lock up at Dilley.

This tow truck driver returns the cars for free as a public service, and he’s been getting death threats.

Which is why must keep helping.
