Last year, the DOJ brought charges against the CEO of Fat Brands for a range of financial crimes totaling $47 million.

During the 2024 election cycle, the CEO donated nearly $20k to Trump and Republicans.

Today, the DOJ dropped the case against him.

Funny how that works.

I know writers at the top of their game who are winning awards and who are on the fancy display tables in bookshop chains. These people still have day jobs. Writing money isn't quitting money, it's a nice extra that makes it easier to fix the washing machine.
21) Addendum: Every writer I know either has a day job, is married to someone with a cushy day job or money, inherited money or received a great deal of parental support, or very rarely, is on disability and barely making ends meet as it is.

Which is to say, few writers live off their writing.

Really interesting. Don't entirely agree. Still hope literature will endure. Also wonder if English Literature departments could have defended the universality of literature rather than caving to identitarian attacks... But worrying stats and stories here plus a great potted history of lit criticism

The Women & Equalties Committee have published our report as part of our series on Equality at Work on paternity and shared parental leave.

Some key recommendations:

🚼 increasing paternity leave from 2 weeks to 6 weeks is a start
🚼 include the self-employed
🚼 simplify SPL
🚼 paternity allowance.
We have published a report, Equality at work: paternity and shared parental leave.

We found that the current system is broken, and have a number of recommendations to help fix it ⬇️

My wife handed me a clean towel and asked me to “put it in its place.” So, I looked at it and said, “Don’t forget that you’re only a towel,” and I was reminded yet again of just how lucky this woman was to be married to me.

Remembering Chevalière d'Éon for Pride. A transgender woman in the 1700s who was also a spy and who turned double agent, extorted an entire monarchy to get her gender marker changed, and lived her life as a woman in a time when such was thought impossible.

We have always been here.

Labour is handing this country on a silver platter to Reform. People do not vote Labour because they hate immigrants and want Reform-lite. They vote Labour because they want it to make a positive difference to their lives.

What do we do about regional theatre reviewing? We need reviewers who understand and represent our audiences who will see work of all scales and go on a critical journey with us. Who will give the emerging company in the studio a chance as much as a big show in the main house.
