one of the big lessons re conservatives and especially conservative christians is that they are more satisfied by being comparatively better off than others rather than being better off in absolute terms.

I had a theology professor tell me, as I was being kicked out of seminar my and very confused about why God would allow this to happen and had asked his advice:
“If God exists, and made you and your brain, then how could you possibly fit all understanding of him in that brain? Embrace the mystery.”

Be passionate, assess alternatives with conviction, take sides. But don’t fall so in love with your opinions that you can’t change them with better data.
