Last harakeke flowering season, one of the kids in our neighbourhood named all the local tūī. When his mother showed him this picture, quick as a flash he said "oh mum, that's Lucy!" So this is Lucy. 🪶

I'm trying to get better at drawing birds - with middling success. Practice makes perfect as they say?

Bird Set-up Photography (courtesy of hidden grape jelly [not jam!]). Hoping to see these beauties return in a few weeks! Grape jelly obviously does not attract Red-Shouldered Hawks or Hummers. The hawk was loudly screeching, I think, for a rat, or trying to attract a mate.

Acorn Woodpecker posing exactly where he was supposed to (grape-jelly guided). Taken 20 years ago with a Nikon D70 when I first switched, with trepidation, to digital. Applied latest PS tweaks to extent possible.

Your terrific "Wilson's Warbler. For The Institute for Bird Populations, 2022 Thank You card" reminded me that unlike the Flickers, this pretty boy conveniently posed outside of our family room (i.e. "couch capture").

Please stop using AI, even just for your YouTube headers and blog posts and stuff. Please. It looks generic and shit at best. It doesn't make you look professional. Quite the opposite.

Next week I will be on Rota, in the Northern Mariana Islands. The Black Drongo, illustrated here, is an introduced species there - but it will be my first time seeing them, so I can't help but be a little excited anyway! 🎨🪶🐡

Been working on some client work as of late, so I haven't been able to post anything new lately. In the mean time, I'll be posting some older work here. Here's an older wildlife piece of one of my favorite avians.
