Insert perfect summary of my life (impressive, wildly varied, witty). Insert disclaimer that posts belong to me.
Hats | fountain pens | metal | walkable cities

Everything here in a private capacity.
My YouTube algorithm is so well trained to offer me metal music, notebooks and fountain pens, that I'm reluctant to watch much else in case I corrupt it. 🤘 📓 ✒️

Not a story I tell very often, but my first contact with French poetry, which I now study for a living, happened through Black Sabbath. I had just turned 15, it was the year before the last at school. I skipped a few days and when I came back the literature teacher said I had missed an assignment...

Me. And me now.

That line is devastating, four simple words encapsulating - or suggesting - so much, in a novel filled with Bloom's thoughts about identity, time, memory, what he had aspired to be, what we see that day that he had become.

Happy Bloomsday.

I saw your post on the FP Australia group on Facebook. I'd love it if you could add me to the starter pack you've set up. (Fountain pen chat makes up most of my interactions here.)
Also thank you for creating the starter pack.

Setting up my Lochby Field Journal, and I've decided to name one notebook my Compost Heap.
Where I can throw things, make a mess, write with whatever fountain pen / ink I have in my hand, mix things up and let them lie for a time - I hope to create something rich and aromatic over time.

I was excited to order a Lochby Field Journal, but I'm not thrilled by the finish on the product straight out of the package.

Maybe I need to loosen up and take it hiking and camping to develop its rugged patina, but for now I'm not sure.

Looks and feel cheap, although it wasn't at all.

A cry into the void about Lamy's terrible M63 refills. I use my two Lamy fountain pens every day. But every M63 rollerball refill I've bought was absolute garbage. I've bought about 10, and each one scratches or drops out.

I know the hacks to use other brands of refill. But why doesn't Lamy fix it?

The plastic lid of my Iroshizuku ink bottle has been cracked. (Coincidentally, it happened while I was applying some mechanical force to a lid that didn't want to budge.)

Can anyone recommend a brand or type of ink bottle in which to decant my remaining Kon-Peki ink before it evaporates? ✒️ 💧

A lot of people love EF nibs on their fountain pens. I find my F nibs only work with particular papers, so I'm wary about trying an EF.

What do you love about your EFs?
Are they more fussy to pair with the *right* paper?
Are they ever too scratchy?
Is there a brand you'd recommend for a first step?

Fascinating that some of the AusPol types who have just arrived here from The Bad Place in the last week or two (or just started actively posting), sounding as if that place suddenly got too bad to bear. As if it wasn't clear two years ago where it was heading.

I love my Lamy AL-Star fountain pens, and I write with them every day, but I've never seen an email from a stationary supplier that was easier to delete than this one.

Seeing all the pictures from the Pelikan Hub events around the world prompted me to look up their fountain pens on our local pen shop's website. All expensive, for me at least.
Are there any affordable workhorse Pelikans that people would recommend?
Also, what's the appeal with Pelikan in general?

2) Heavy metal
3) Walking
This post accidentally provoked a kind of cool thing. Let's keep it rolling! Tell me about things you like! I will start:

1) Chinese Food
2) 80s and 90s dancehall reggae
3) Leeds United Football Club

Questions for FPSky.

Santa's Helper has suggested buying me a Monteverde Innovo blue fountain pen for Christmas, but I've read some bad things about them. End breaking off, cap stuck, uneven feed etc.

If you have one, what do you think about it?
What do you like / dislike?
Would you recommend one?

Happy Bloomsday to those who celebrate.

"She was no more: the trembling skeleton of a twig burnt in the fire, an odour of rosewood and wetted ashes. She had saved him from being trampled underfoot and had gone, scarcely having been."

You know when you make a cup of tea, and you think you've made it exactly the same as any other cup of tea, and you sip it and you think to yourself: "Wow, this is the finest cup of tea that I've had in a *long* time."?

Well, this morning was one of those mornings.
