Being a person with deadly, incurable cancer who is nonetheless still alive for an indefinite timeframe gives me an interesting metaphor that helps me deal with things like large-scale corruption in government or commerce.

Actual dream I had two nights ago: I was at work, passing through the lobby, when an exterminator walks in wearing full kit. Says he’s come to deal with the rats and asks for the manager. The receptionist replies grimly that Elon Musk bought the building six months ago. We exchange uneasy looks.
