Finns seem to me, just a bit too easily, reduce the breadth of expressions of Finnish culture into just kind of ironic, gritty realism. Like examples in video games are like My Summer Car, Finnish Cottage Simulator, Last Drop etc. But it extends outside video games too, particularly in discussions.

I liked the politeness in the UK. I greeted and thanked the Finnish border guards and they looked at me like I had three heads :(

I believe this is true of most subjects. PE, history, art, you name it. Instead of inspiring students to explore a subject and expand their abilities, we immediately grade them, putting students into categories of ‘good’, ‘mediocre’ and ‘crap’. That sticks. And it stifles. Often for life.
People like to make math seem harder than it is; I don't know exactly what their incentives are, but it's actively harmful. Math isn't that hard. It's just taught terribly, and that gets excused away as "well it's hard, you either get it or you don't."

I think one of the most persistent social lies we are all taught is that evil, unshackled by the need to be moral, is better at things. This in spite of the fact that every time evil is tried on a societal level, it fails. It makes everything worse, not just what it wants to make worse.

Update: It went great! It was so fun to catch up.
Clearly I don't have enough anxiety and stress to deal with so I also sent a message to an old friend I haven't talked with in 6+ years. I have no idea how it'll be received.

I'm dreaming of the day when all the apartment stuff is sorted out and I can let out the breath I feel like I am now holding in 🙏🏻

The president of Finland was reading Moomin books in a broadcast Moomin book marathon and he took two turns reading them, once in Finnish and once in Swedish. I love it 🥰

A missed phone call from a number I don't know is driving me crazy. I know it is neither a scam nor a spam caller, because those get flagged very fast. It's not healthcare related, because those come from hidden callers and it's not judicial because those are public. Is it abt JOB I applied to??? 😭😭

My daily estrogen dose was recently increased from 6 to 8. I didn't spare a second thought on it at first, but over time there's been a very noticeable difference in my energy levels and overall well-being. I feel more motivated and most things are just less of a struggle. This is all v. unexpected.

I haven't been very active here. Time's just flying past as days have become very routinized and I'm mostly just waiting for things atm. Hit a little gaming slump too, been just going through FFXIV story again. Life's not been bad though and it's been fantastic time for fiction writing.

This is too real and relatable. I just want to say same thing happens with that Tesla coil sound from Red Alert 2.

The sound of this one specific bird from Age of Empires keeps haunting me through pop songs, movies, and across other games
It's like the Wilhelm Scream of birdsong.

Europeans* have gotten so detached from war we are not afraid of it enough. Consequently, not only do not people appreciate peace enough, awfully many take it for granted. I saw someone say that if peace was the only in thing EU had given us in Europe, it would still be worth it. That's 100% true.

I've gotten back to playing FFXIV! It's such a comforting game to return to. After a couple of false returns over the past couple of years I've now stuck to it too.

While timing with the new year is mostly coincidental, I have decided to start treating myself better. I’m going to go get my teeth fixed, I’m going to start working out and I’ll try to prioritize my time and resources better. E.g. I’ll try to build a wardrobe of nice, but long-lasting clothes.

Having a lot of fun playing Demonschool. Wonderful game to play on the deck, with fun characters and surprisingly fun writing combined with engaging combat mechanics.

I don't understand how much it can feel like my parents and I live in different worlds. Like we speak the same language but on a completely different wavelength. And it's not a recent development, it's been always like that. My siblings don't have that issue with parents, but also not with me either
