People have died in Tesla crashes where electric door releases failed, and there are cases of Model Y occupants smashing windows to escape after the handles stopped working.
It's definitely worth noting that a whole bunch of BYD cars and other manufacturers have these absurd handles. Tesla obviously led the way here but remember that Chinese car companies do obscene and pointlessly dangerous things too (also see: BYD's massive fossil fuel cars they sell in Aus)
