“Any serious push to account for the actions of this government — to abolish the president’s private army, restructure immigration enforcement and punish anyone responsible for wrongdoing — must include recompense and repair for its victims,” our columnist Jamelle Bouie writes.

Seems as though they have laid off their entire photography staff. Photojournalists don’t just take photos, we report, we pitch, we take photos while our lives and safety are under threat. We explore our neighborhoods, restaurants and sports with a creative eye. Photojournalists do it all.
Washington Post laid off many of their staff photographers, too. Which seems missing from a lot of coverage I’ve read.

the thing is, people already pay for journalism. as @pareene.bsky.social points out, that’s no small part of what they pay their ISP for: so they can access the news. none of that money makes its way to press shops or journalists, so we end up trying to survive on the margins of people’s budgets
How do you fix journalism?

Fucking pay for it.

Stop complaining about paywalls and subscribe.

ICE tear gassed a bunch of children on Saturday. This was a massive escalation of force. They were shooting tear gas at the back of the crowd, it took these unmasked people maybe 3-5 minutes in the cloud of tear gas to escape in without trampling. www.theverge.com/policy/87278...
