Thrilled for the publication of our latest paper on the role of SAS-6 in invasion.
This was a pre-pandemic and post-pandemic effort that would not have been possible without our students and the support of so many colleagues and friends!

Very proud of Aimée Gowans for defending her MPhil at Brunel University of London! She is going away for a PhD! I hope to be a part of her science family and continue to mentor/support her in the future.

What puzzles me about cilia and cancer is how ciliary signals can promote of block cancer cells. Thank you @oncogenejournal, colleagues, reviewers and editors and hopefully we did a good job with this review. #cancer #cilia

Thank you Oncogene for this opportunity and very grateful to the reviewers, editors and colleagues for making this manuscript better. And, of course, thankful to my student, Rebecca Collinson, for following on my crazy ideas!

The 2025 @bsdb.bsky.social Wolpert Medal goes to Pleasantine Mill @cilialab.bsky.social 🎉

In this interview, Pleasantine talks about why it’s important, now more than ever, for scientists to engage in community work:

Just out! We used C. elegans to trace the cargo of ciliary EVs and found that their loading is a regulated process involving polycystins. @barrlab.bsky.social communities.springernature.com/posts/tiny-m...

Dismantling federal utilities that are clearly a public good (NWS, NIH, NSF, CDC, etc.) is such a clear overarching theme of an administration that seems committed to dragging the US backwards to a time when Americans could not rely on expertise and evidence to ensure a better, safer life
The NWS is a critical public utility, and it would be extremely difficult to rebuild if torn down. This is not, in short, an acceptable setting in which to “move fast and break things.”

Another assault on US competitiveness at a time when biomedicine is roaring with innovation, an own-goal in a high-stakes international tournament. Of course the real losers are American people needing medicines and cures.

NIH cuts billions of dollars in biomedical funding, effective immediately
The move halts a large slice of money for most universities and research institutions virtually overnight, imperiling vital research in everything from cancer to heart disease.

There is a growing tendency to view everything as a product to be sold, but science is different, it is not a product, it's a process requiring critical thinking and evidence. Thank you @jcellsci.bsky.social and Sara Morais da Silva for giving me a voice.
Our Cell Scientist to Watch interview is with @tanosbarbara.bsky.social. We hear about Barbara’s career, her research on centrioles and cilia and her best advice for her students.
