Some comments on Americans moving over to Xiaohongshu, with no particular overarching theme:

1. Americans generally have an extremely racist view of Chinese people being a hivemind who don't lead personal lives the way Americans do. Chinese people justifiably react with trying to disprove that;

I generally find that I can't hold conversations with Democrats for the same reason I can't hold conversations with Zionists. They are really living in an alternate reality

"How do you feel now that Trump is calling for the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians"

that question only makes sense on the premise that Biden didn't call for and commit ethnic cleansing!

That's because protests don't do much. It's interesting how when it comes to normal interpersonal relations, we use common sense, but when it comes to institutions, suddenly all common sense is thrown out the window and we start using transparently power-serving approaches to deal with them
well welll well apparently the radical flank approach works similarly on climate as it has on every other social issue

nobody at the level of power we say we're aiming to contest - who could launch an ICBM, capital strike, or planetary scale disinformation campaign - is worried about the fine details of our lil critiques, or precisely what kind of socialist/anarchist/anti-imperialist is frowning at them. be serious.

Too happy that feminist, award-winning Ethiopian photo journalist, lovely human being @marthinolly.bsky.social, who is published in @lemonde.fr @aljazeera.com & by a plethora of other media/NGOs...is here. Ethics & critical thinking I learn more of from her daily.

So all the cool kids are here now.

Nov 4th is the 4th anniversary of the declaration of war, a horrible war that would killed half a million people in two years, mostly Tigrayan civilians, victims of crimes against humanity & a humanitarian siege. Tigrayan communities are commemorating genocide memorial day.

The only way to deal with institutions commuting crime is the same way you deal with people who commit crimes: you either impose costs on them so they reverse course (crippling or seizing their resources), or forcefully apprehend them. No amount of appealing to words on paper is going to stop them

This doesn't mean you ought to automatically go out and start throwing Molotov cocktails at the nearest officer you see. However people ought to be willing to take illegal measures to stop the crimes of the state, such as collectively withholding taxes.

Left-sympathizers are still informed by a hierarchical morality that is deliberately constructed to serve the state, where violence committed by the state is seen as legitimate or justified, whereas violence committed by regular folk against the state is barbaric and unjustified.
