I hate that “I wish the head of the New York Times had the same self-awareness as a crackhead failson” is a factually true sentence.
The thing about Hunter's benders is that he didn't want to invite elites to them because he was, on some level, ashamed of his own behavior in a way none of the elites ever were.

Given that Summers' "mentee" is also an economist, his interactions with her were part of his professional responsibilities. I don't think it would imperil academic freedom for his conduct to be cause for termination.
I have no sympathy for any of Summers’ comments. But universities should not cut ties with people whose comments and/or private associations they find odious, even when they are right. If he violated either the law or university regulations, fine. Otherwise, not so much.
Per CNN, Elizabeth Warren is calling on Harvard to cut ties with Larry Summers after Jeffrey Epstein's emails released last week by House Dems featured Summers making sexist comments + asking for Epstein’s romantic advice.

truly it is a mystery why women find it hard to get ahead in academia
"I could be a mentor to this very sharp person but as they aren't interested in me romantically I'm going to have to cut off all communication with them."

"Also, only men get the best mentors like me who can help them get into top journals. Clearly that's because men have higher IQ than women."

anyway, my neighborhood IS better because it has brick oven pizzas and craft breweries. those places are great. why wouldn't you want to live near them?
Why do liberal southerners always do this?

Look, I'm from Idaho, which has plenty of lovely people who are suffering under its policies. But I'll be the first to admit that those laws exist because most people earnestly want bad things. The same is true for Alabama.
I understand why a lot of white liberals are like, fuck the south, because they think about the people in power who are mostly white conservatives. But that is only because of Jim Crow, voter suppression, a lack of real funding for Dems there

Remember kids, theoretical physicists have irreparably ruined public trust in science by saying they *hope* we *could* find BSM evidence at the LHC, but Elon gets to predict his products will "do the sci-fi" and be wrong 100 times per year for profit but he's just giving them hope

The REALLY infuriating thing is that Red Scare was well-positioned to articulate a serious version of communism, because Anna Khachiyan definitely knows what an interior-point method is.

Political considerations aside, the federal government should:
- Ban meat and eggs
- Spend 1/10 of GNI ($2.9 trillion / yr) on foreign aid
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

Journalists, with some exceptions, seem incapable of dealing with modernity.

Bunch of math-averse troglodytes whose epistemology beings and ends at "a guy said a thing," and who cannot grasp that institutions may be structurally flawed while having noble individuals within them.

Nix is kind of the apotheosis of this, in that it:
- Has probably saved me a month of work
- Took me most of the week to learn
- Would've taken me a few hours to learn, if anyone had bothered to write a half-decent tutorial
This is a cold take, but the only problem with functional programming is that it selects for people who are terrible at (or uninterested in) writing documentation.

if parents actually knew the true extent or how absolutely cooked education studies is academically, it could trigger a right wing backlash so bad that we’d get a comic book idea of a dictatorial dystopia
One conservative criticism I take seriously is that education PhDs often come up with well-meaning ideas that absolutely melt the brains of kids
ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

Not sure I agree with the "how we got here" part, but jesus christ, PRE-K??? This, like finding out that NYC does gifted programs for 5-year-olds, makes me feel like I've stumbled in from an alternate universe.
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here
