Tariffs.
Stock market down.
Medicaid slashed
Secret police throwing anyone who looks Latino in unmarked vans.
National guard and marines deployed in LA.
No end to the wars in Gaza or Ukraine
Bombing Iran

This is the worst first six months of any presidential term in my lifetime.

Also, the utter failure of the great majority of our reps to respond appropriately.
Trump "allowed Musk to create a de facto private civil service that answers only to Musk, is staffed by people who had worked for Musk or his ally Thiel...Far from closing up shop, DOGE is expanding its power, 'digging in like a parasite.'"

🧵Trump is robbing your grandma to pay off the ultra-rich.

He promised to help everyday Americans, but now he's gutting Medicaid to bankroll massive tax-cuts for his greedy, jet-setting, loophole-loving billionaire cronies.

Trump blindsides staff, Congress with conflicting Medicaid messages
Republicans are getting worried about how much they'll have to cut from the popular health safety-net program, and whether the president will protect them from political blowback.

If it's about saving government money why are they firing people who make money for the government?

DOGE is a lie, start to finish.
IRS employee tells me the IRS is going to terminate ~6,600 people today.

These are by and large people who "go after tax evasion."

unfortunately for these folks the odds are that they aren’t going to go after violent criminals at all — too hard — and going to go exclusively over the easiest targets, which are law abiding workers

One of my party facts is that according to polls, Americans believe foreign aid is about 25% of the federal budget and on average that it *should* be about 10%.

The actual number is less than 1%.

Foreign aid has long been a boogey man of the right, so it's not surprising they're vilifying it now.

When Stephen Harper was elected, I worked for the Geological Survey of Canada. The very next day we were told we had to remove “climate change” from our grant applications. The muzzling soon followed.

US scientists need to be preparing now. @whysharksmatter.bsky.social has good advice here. 🧪

Will U.S. government scientists soon face the “muzzling” their Canadian counterparts experienced under right-wing Prime Minister Stephen Harper?

David Shiffman spoke to several people whose work was affected by Harper’s regressive policies, and they have advice to help prepare for Trump 2.0. ⬇️
