Big time cold coming our way this weekend and we’ll be keeping an eye on our storm chances.
The latest on the major winter storm and extreme cold expected later this week.

There was an excellent standing lenticular cloud over the Presidentials today! Otherworldly standing over Mount Washington.

Here's a look at why they form ->

While Hurricane Melissa will pass waaay out to sea to our SE, some of the system's tropical moisture will get dragged northward ahead of an approaching cold front Thursday and Thursday night, giving the rain a little extra boost. Some hefty downpours likely Thursday evening/night.

Was pretty mild today (mid 60s) but a stretch of chilly weather coming up this weekend into early next week

A view seemingly frozen in time. Evident from the water line in Salt Pond that there was quite a high tide today ahead of the weekend’s coastal storm. I was fortunate to enjoy the gorgeous day and this vista.

I think I take this picture once every October. This was the peak of spookiness to me as a child. I hope it’s haunted.

While the core of Erin passes WELL southeast of the area, we'll still deal with some gusty winds later today into Friday morning. Decent mixing will tap some of the stronger winds from aloft and yield NE winds 20-30 mph with some 40+ mph gusts. Maybe a spot 50 mph gust somewhere on the Outer Cape.

We're hanging on to comfortable conditions at the moment...with dewpoints still in the 60s here on the Cape. But gross air is lurking *just* to our south and west and that airmass builds in over the next several hours. Totally different feel with tropical humidity and increasing temps Mon-Wed

Really comfortable air mass over the area right now...dewpoints down into the 40s on the Cape. Wind will swing around to the south tonight and tomorrow and bring back the muggy air. It's likely going to be quite a while before we see air this dry again

Has been a cool, gray and misty day with a gusty onshore breeze. That wind swings around to the south tonight, sends milder/more humid air northward and could lead to a few showers/t-storms Tues as a cold front cuts through the area. HRRR highlighting some midday and afternoon downpours/thunder

Cape Cod isn’t a tropical place but it sure feels like a jungle this time of year. The setting sun coming through the greenery horizontally feels like you’re getting a vegetable hug.

In addition to the strong wind, looking at some heavy rain tomorrow afternoon. NAM simulated radar shows a widespread soaking rain overspreading the area with embedded downpours. Could be a rumble of thunder in there as well

I’m not certain this is good news.

The Plimoth Grist Mill (left) seen here doing its best to dress itself in equal parts autumn and winter (and doing a fine job at that) is a replica that was constructed in the late 1960s, the most recent in a long line of mills occupying this site beginning as early as 1625.
