A view seemingly frozen in time. Evident from the water line in Salt Pond that there was quite a high tide today ahead of the weekend’s coastal storm. I was fortunate to enjoy the gorgeous day and this vista.
A tranquil coastal scene shows a narrow tidal river curving toward the sea under a clear blue sky. I think I take this picture once every October. This was the peak of spookiness to me as a child. I hope it’s haunted.

Cape Cod isn’t a tropical place but it sure feels like a jungle this time of year. The setting sun coming through the greenery horizontally feels like you’re getting a vegetable hug.
A narrow wooden boardwalk winds through a lush, green forest under dappled sunlight. Ferns and dense vegetation line the path, with young trees and tangled branches creating a canopy overhead. The scene is vibrant and serene, suggesting a quiet nature trail in late spring or early summer.

One of those days that makes you forget how much longer winter will probably be.

The Plimoth Grist Mill (left) seen here doing its best to dress itself in equal parts autumn and winter (and doing a fine job at that) is a replica that was constructed in the late 1960s, the most recent in a long line of mills occupying this site beginning as early as 1625.

Gray days are still nice if you’ve got the right view.

Spring.

But but but… it’s spring.
Crocuses bloom at the roadside in Barnstable Village. Their flowers are faintly purple, with vivid yellow-orange stamens at the center of their cup-shaped petals.

Nothing super dramatic but a little before and after of Millway Beach. The dune seems have lost a few feet at its base.

A very high tide in Barnstable Harbor had already receded somewhat when this picture was taken. Was hoping to see it this time tomorrow but it sounds like travel will not be advisable.
The milky winter sky is reflected in the calm waters of Barnstable Harbor at high tide. Sandy Neck appears on the horizon. A narrow strip of beach appears in the foreground, with a tall dune to the left that was replenished by the dredging of the channel. The absence of people on the beach is unmistakably winter.

A pleasant stroll through Sandwich Village with the wife this afternoon. We’ve always enjoyed this spot. I’ve taken this picture dozens of times, and I never tire of it.
A serene scene at dusk as Shawme Pond reflects the sunset and historic Sandwich Village. The sky is dotted with fluffy, scattered clouds, illuminated from below. Newcombs Tavern, the classic two-story white house with its stoic symmetry balanced around its central chimney is prominently reflected in the water, along with the Dexter Grist Mill to the right, dating back to the 17th century. The reflection is crisp and detailed, suggesting the water is very still. There's a wooden structure on the right side of the image, at the water's edge; the former Sandwich Town Hall.
