TIL Curtis Sliwa got caught cheating in a matzoh ball eating contest. TIL also that it is possible to cheat in a matzoh ball eating contest.
Was honored to help @chana.bsky.social edit this deep dive compilation of Curtis Sliwa lore gathered over weeks. There is so much jaw-dropping material, we simply could not bear to make it shorter than 76 slides.
I’m sorry but you still don’t know enough about Curtis Sliwa

Enough of them realized that this country would collapse in hours if the price of coffee went too high.
🚨 The Senate votes 52-48 to overturn President Trump's 50 percent tariffs on Brazil. 5 GOP Senators break ranks to vote against Trump: Collins ME, McConnell KY, Murkowski AK, Paul KY, and Tillis NC.

Genuinely the moment in US (and to a significant extent, world) history in my own lifetime where shit went deeply, deeply wrong. If you believe, as I do, that a Gore admin would’ve likely prevented 9/11, then even more so.

I’m a bucatini hater. I like short tube pasta, but long tube? The sauce can’t get in there, so what’s the point?
a second day of the same discourse? no. no thank you.

instead I need you to name your least favorite pasta shape

I’m gonna have to break with the dictionary here and insist that “butt naked” is is own thing, and legit.
Not to be THAT dictionary, but…

It’s ‘per se,’ not ‘per say.’
It’s ‘dog-eat-dog world,’ not ‘doggy-dog world.’
It’s ‘hunger pangs,’ not ‘hunger pains.’
It’s ‘one and the same,’ not ‘one in the same.’
It's 'buck naked,' not 'butt naked.'

There are no kings in America except Abe Froman, the Sausage King of Chicago.

See some of you out and about around town this weekend.

Literally in 2004 I witnessed the University of Washington’s College Republicans holding an “Affirmative Action Bakesale” in front of the student union building, where I was working at the time. They have, in fact, always been like this.
"they've always been like this" is always a tempting savvy take but it is just not true that Republican staffers were 100 percent open Nazis back in 2004, or hell even 2014. they just weren't
there have been a lot of responses to this arguing that young Republicans were motivated by such feelings but didn't express them openly

and I think a crucial lesson of the Trump era is that there is great value in people not expressing these things openly! that's a big and decisive change!

Both “Andventures in Babysitting” and “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle” are films based on Homer’s The Odyssey.

My favorites of these elsewhere are Houston St. in NYC and Couch St. in Portland.

I got a pic of my grandmother’s high school yearbook photo and senior bio from a complete stranger on twitter whose grandfather was in the same class. That was nice.
Has anything great happened in your life because of social media?

I’m firmly team text. I will not watch a video on my phone to receive information (I’ll watch a vid for entertainment sometimes). I wish accessibility enthusiasts on this site were as ardent about including subtitles in videos as they are about alt text for pics.
The real generational divide is people who refuse to watch a video if it could be an article versus people who refuse to read an article if it could be a video

Apparently I have Thoughts about the existence of Peanuts-themed Clue.
Peppermint Patty has it in her, but lacks the executive function to follow through with it. She’d enlist Marcie, but Clue rules don’t allow conspiracy. Lucy is openly homicidal, but would do it with her bare hands, obviating a critical component of the Clue game.

Why does Andreesen’s head look pointier with each successive photo of him I see?
Oh, rest assured, in the hands of oligarchs Ellison and Andreessen, the new algorithm will be 100% FASCIST.

I don't think pointing out the fascists' 'hypocrisy' is a good use of time. It's not hypocrisy, it's hierarchy. They actually do believe that they have the right and obligation to dominate you because they are superior to you. They are using their power not being hypocritical.

D is my obvious choice. What’s challenging about this map is the choice to split Italy into 3 sectors.
For the rest of your life, you can only eat food from one of these regions. Which do you choose?

Hey Bay area: hire Dyna!
I need work, preferably in the San Francisco Bay area.

I'm an experienced graphic designer/art director. I can draw fairly competently. I write better than average and have written 2 professionally published books. Good storyteller, know some celebrity gossip. Not stupid

I could break rocks, too.
