Don't let this Jan 6th point get lost:

Jack Smith testified to Congress he had "proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election."

In other words, he could prove in court that Trump attempted a coup.

Five years ago today, a violent mob invaded the US Capitol, at President Trump’s urging, to disrupt certification of an election he lost. This attack on the US government was a clear and disturbing sign of the authoritarian path he took then—and continues to advance today. (🧵)

I've watched thousands of videos from the Jan. 6 riot as part of NPR's reporting and archive project on that day.

Here are some of the lesser known videos that have really stuck with me.

If "division" means the parties can't agree on something everyone in the world saw, then "division" is a meaningless world. People who take pride in their ability to communicate, especially journalists and pundits, should stop using it, and just say one party is lying.

“Five years ago, on January 6, 2021, more than 2,000 rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol to try to stop the process of counting the electoral votes that would make Democrat Joe Biden president of the United States.”

On the fifth anniversary of the insurrection, I can only say that its profoundly sad that convicted seditionists face no consequences and that Trump was ever allowed to hold office again.
Jan. 6 was one of the most shameful days in our history, only the whitewashing is sadder.
Its pathetic frankly.

Flashback to 2020—

On December 19, Trump tweeted, “Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!”

Almost overnight, the cheapest room in his D.C. hotel on that January evening surged from $476 to $1,999.

It staggers me that no-one in public health seems to be acknowledging that immune dysregulation caused by prior SARS-CoV-2 infection is likely a significant factor in this, and the implications of this concept going forward.

I keep thinking about this post and how it's one of the best, most succinct messages Democrats could use in 2026 campaigns.
If you want to know who took all of your money, it's the people with all of the money. Famously, we know that's people working in child care.
