Rusty Rust Belter With A Spring in My Step. President, Saint Louis Society for the Preservation of Two-Fams
Oh, boy, does this skeet re D.C. area conditions give me a bit of ptsd. The event we had last year here in STL with sleet/snow followed by an extended below-freezing period with iced roads was awful. Fortunately we have drier snow this time around.
Repeating: NOW is a good time to shovel if you've switched from snow to sleet. 1-3" of sleet (which is many times heavier than snow) on top of this snow will make it MUCH harder to clear later.

So many emotions this morning. But it's encouraging to see the tide has turned with much of the centrist institutionaltism that had allowed the rising fascism to get to this point. Sen. Durbin e.g. using "reign of terror" language in a statement opposing current DHS funding bill is no small act.

The St. Louis Art Museum is closing at 3pm this afternoon due to the weather and will be closed tomorrow as well. So now is truly your last chance to see the monumental Anselm Kiefer exhibit in person.

Real St. Louisians are heading out to the exhibition now and tossing the sled in the car for afterwards. Live video from Art Hill (well, at least from 2019).

I just spoke with the White House after another horrific shooting by federal agents this morning. Minnesota has had it. This is sickening.

The President must end this operation. Pull the thousands of violent, untrained officers out of Minnesota. Now.

If you're wondering if it's worth it to brave the cold to see the Anselm Kiefer exhibit at SLAM, that's a resounding yes!

The scale & detail are filled w/ longing and some of the best depictions of light.

Thanks to STL peeps (skeeps?🤔) on here who recommended going before it closes this Sunday!

Sorry, can't help myself thinking about Benton Park infill. This four townhome project on a vacant lot wrapped up a couple autumns ago and is one of my faves. There's still a few vacant parcels left to infill in the historic but formerly red-lined neighborhood; but not many.

Grim 🧵on the slow go of tornado recovery.
I’ve been desperate to try and get more debris cleaned up before the city’s deadline but in order to apply for curbside debris removal, you have to own the property. I don’t own the LRA properties so I can’t file. So I got sent to the CSB who sent it to streets who has yet to clear a pile.

It is -9 degrees without windchill. I have retreated to the Skyway. But the streets are full and they keep coming. There have been larger protests but I can’t think of that’s been more hazardous to bare skin.

Infill also appears to be coming to a vacant Benton Park lot in the form of a large main house with an Alley House and garage in back. CRO staff recommends approval.

On bottom right is a single-family home nearing completion in Benton Park; not visible is the 1800s Alley House in the rear.

Some more infill underway in Benton Park.

Top row: a single-fam adjacent to an 1800s oldie the builder rehabbed after a fire; a two-townhome project.
Bottom: A single fam is nearing completion while a permit has been issued for another on the adjacent lot; a single-fam nearing completion

More fill-in for this frigid Friday. These three lots in Benton Park turning dirt for single-family infill are flanked by infill homes built pre-pandemic. (Historic design standards are in place for this older neighborhood, and the new homes also will have brick front exterior.)
And on Missouri Ave. three more!

I didn't notice it at first, but you can see in the background of this pic the old Falstaff Brewery on the other side of the interstate (down a slope). Would love to see that redeveloped. This was all one seamless area before the Highwaymen came with their wrecking balls and explosives.
Interstate construction ma have destroyed so much of the historic neighborhood fabric in cities across America, but here’s some good news on a frigid Fill-In Friday. Dirt is moving on a vacant lot in Soulard that’s adjacent to the I-55 traffic sewer. 16 (iirc) townhomes coming.
