This is how I’ve been starting to approach my own website, and it’s so much more enjoyable — adds a degree of playfulness and self-expression that was always missing before. I didn’t know it had a name and that other people have been tinkering with it for so long! maggieappleton.com/garden-history

I clearly have some kinks to work out though. For some reason apostrophes are rendering weird on Bluesky and Mastodon.

If you're reading this, that means my new #POSSE workflow works and you're reading something that was originally posted to my personal website and then automatically syndicated to Bluesky and Mastodon. Yay! #IndieWeb

Sharing some more thoughts on #NSPM7 today and how it pits the term #antifascist against dissent. The label is being deployed not to confront real #fascism, but to silence critics of Trump’s fascist regime. 🧵

I just got back from spending a long weekend in New York City, and one thing that really struck me about my time there was how many different ideas I came up with walking around. And that got me thinking about a book I read in 2019 or 2020 about walking and neuroscience.

NSPM-7 — the new “Countering Domestic Terrorism” security directive from the Trump administration — prominently includes anti-capitalist beliefs among the ideas it’s concerned about.

Let that sink in: the U.S. government now officially associates being anti-capitalist with domestic terrorism.

I’m kind of scared to get a tattoo of some cool looking old symbol or something in the fear that it might wind up as a tech company logo one day

It’s been a while since I posted on my blog (or here), but I recently revisited the last thing I published there and have been reflecting on it. Here’s the link to the full post if you want to read it, but this is the gist. 🧵

I need a button that opts me out of all AI unless I ask for something. No more fake artist mash-ups or fake movie trailers on YouTube. No more fake animal videos on Facebook. No more every software shoving AI into everything I try to do. I would pay good money for this.
