“After the war is won, we must be prepared to move forward with the implementation of these rights.”
81 years ago, FDR proposed a second Bill of Rights to guarantee every American the right to employment, healthcare, education, housing, and a living income. His words are as relevant now as they were then. Watch.

I am a man of my word. Y'all came through in a big way with the $5 donations and I promised a match, and a match you shall get.

If anyone else would like to match my match that would be super neato, but at the very least let's keep those early $5 donations coming! Onward to $10,000!

Every time I see someone going "This has more side effects than it's worth!" that just means it is a well-tested product that likely is very safe and effective for it to have made it to commercial sales. Your doctor can tell you what side effects to look out for in YOUR case.

And then we still have to pay for most of the actual care, until we reach the deductible, and even after that, until we hit out of pocket maximums.
“The average family in the US currently pays $6,850 annually for health insurance, and the average annual payment for employers is $20,143,” Apollo’s Torsten Sløk writes, in a new note. “That is a total annual cost for health insurance per family of $26,993.”

We hit our 100th $5 donation last night so I’ll be making the $500 matching donation as promised in the next day or two. If anyone else would like to join me in my matching donation I wouldn’t say no 😛 desertbus.org

And thanks to everyone who’s donated so far! We’re already over $5000!!! 🥳
And to spice it up just a little bit, I will match the first 100 donations of $5USD exactly that are made before the start of the run. Obviously it’ll be great if we get more, but I figure that’s likely what my goof would have cost me 😃.

So head over to desertbus.org and get those $5 donations in!

November 9th. #HelpFolksLive2025 thread. Something's *always* due & food is *always* needed. Things only get better with community action. *Now* is when folks need food, water, shelter, meds. *Now* is when we/the community needs to be there for each other. There's no one else. Just us.

Once upon a time, a group existed called “$1 Donations” and there were thousands of people in the group, and the goal was if everyone donated $1 to a goal then it would be funded/overfunded quickly. If people wanted to donate more, they could. No one was obligated to donate, but it was encouraged.

My readers' poll had a tie! And I'm seeing a lot of decision paralysis in my local FB groups. "How can I help?" You already know, just do the thing.
Household Budgeting vs. Finances of the Resistance
In the last newsletter, I asked readers what topics they were most interested in, which came to a tie between “Household Budgeting” and “Finances of the Resistance.” No one wanted to read about retire...

New — While some states have received SNAP benefits for November and USDA is supposedly pushing through all federal payments soon, that doesn’t erase the psychological terror of the last few weeks.

I spoke with 20+ SNAP recipients in 16 states about preparing for a possible future with no food:
The voices of SNAP
Recipients have become political pawns. They explained, in their own words, what Trump withholding funds has been like.

If all you have extra to donate each week is $1, no you don’t. You save that dollar.

(I KNOW that’s hard to swallow, but if you are on the edge, your first task is to get yourself away from that edge. And then show up for others once you’re stable.)

Trying to catch up on yesterday's figure skating but the Pairs replay on Peacock is extremely glitched, pretty much unwatchable.

Skating is the reason I have Peacock at all and they have the exclusive US broadcast rights 😵‍💫

On top of the fact that these replays are only available for 72 hours max.

Getting a bunch of these ready for a local food drive and Little Free Pantries.

I feel like it makes a big difference to provide a "complete set" of something, with instructions, to make a meal.
I love Rebecca DOWN. Known as Dollar Tree Dinners.

Her “Meal in a Bag” is meant to provide ppl with a complete meal that is $8 or less, is shelf stable, & can be made without access to a full kitchen. I love this as a direct aid option. Good for neighbors & elders who can’t/wont go to a pantry.

Many, many active duty soldiers still rely on SNAP and WIC to feed their families, though eligibility changes depending on the state. People are getting concerned *fast* here.
Did you know that over 1.3M active duty service members and veterans rely on SNAP benefits to feed themselves and their families?

Now you know.
