Some more info from WaPo here on two other UVA BoV members who Spanberger asked to resign. Doug Wetmore should be fired if he doesn’t step down; he’s one of Youngkin’s stooges who targeted anything related to diversity and inclusion. www.cavalierdaily.com/article/2025...

Before Chadha, majorities in both houses could have undone tariffs imposed under IEEPA (as these are). After Chadha, it requires a 2/3 vote in both houses to override the inevitable presidential veto.

Mike Johnson: "ICE is doing what ICE is designed to do"
Mike Johnson comes out against additional guardrails on ICE as Democrats call for it.

“I think there's a lot of Democrats playing games right now with national security and with law enforcement. And I think it's dangerous. Ice is doing what ice is designed to do by its very name.”

People really don’t understand how bad Minnesota is at this point. The news is openly discussing the federal plans to use old Amazon prime facilities in places like Woodbury and other suburbs as fascist detention centers.

We are fully through the glass and people need to fully take in that reality

14 days in. This is why establishment Democrats went so hard against this guy. Because he's demonstrating that good politicians who actually want to improve people's lives can simply implement popular policies and...govern effectively. He's giving their whole game away.

This is the dynamic across most of America: Liberal cities generate revenue, which state governments then transfer to benefit conservative rural areas, whose residents despite city-dwellers and consistently vote to harm them. But politicians endlessly pander to rural voters and demonize cities.
Another critical piece of missing context in this story: tax dollars flow from the MSP metro to rural Minnesota. People in the city subsidize the lifestyles of people living in the country minnesotareformer.com/2023/12/04/t...

I actually think one reason why D.C. is FAIRLY well-run (at least in comparison to many American cities) is because we get to use our local tax dollars on ourselves. The revenue we generate isn't being redirected toward conservative rural voters who despise us. We reinvest it in our communities.

Or: How soon we forget.

In my day job, I was surprised at how quickly people started to go on cruise vessels (which are basically an epidemic starting point waiting to happen) again.

Many people want to get back to what they've been doing before, instead of thinking what went wrong.

Everyone gets mad that people blank out this period, but it's a coping mechanism like any other. I don't find thinking about it or shows about it cathartic at all, just triggering which is unusual for me. The most cathartic pandemic show I've ever watched was... Station Eleven 😆.

Painful.

I'll never forget doing crisis com for a senior living client that went from "8 people have mind symptoms, no need to worry" to "15 people are dead" in just 10 days.
