I just did the dumbest thing of my entire career to prove a much more serious point.

I tricked ChatGPT and Google, and made them tell other users I’m a competitive hot-dog-eating world champion

People are using this trick on a massive scale to make AI tell you lies. I’ll explain how I did it

How cool is it that so many different cultures (including Welsh pwnco) have convergent evolution for something like rap battles
Palestinian Uncles doing freestyle poetry battles coming with some of the hardest lines I’ve heard in a long time.

For those that have given me a polite blank stare when I mention Gary Larson's Cow Tools: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cow_tools

The wikipedia article has even been updated with this breaking Cow Tool research development.

My pet peeve at the moment is the "you haven't left us a review yet" emails, which have just knocked "please review us" emails from the top spot.
When you finally lose your mind and delete all your nonsense unread emails, you really do see how many of the fuckers arrive on a daily basis. Just a constant "plink plink plink" at your sanity meter as bastards email you about buying a toothbrush or a subscription to horseshoes

this website, even a lot of people I love and respect, has a terminal case of “I am mad about the headline, no I didn’t read the article why do you ask”

I have a theory that the general epistemic crisis has led to a lot of very online people getting used to communicating primarily through oughtposting and kind of forgetting how to deal with isposting
people gotta chill out about making normative vs. descriptive claims. it’s tedious to have to specify “of course, I do NOT support fire” if you’re talking about a house burning down.

love to see someone complaining about seeing an 'immoral' advert online but being pwned and told it's based on their browsing history.
The only problem is that I don't think it's real and online ads are still often just targeted to broad-ish demographics / the targeting is just not perfect?

I love a chronological no-nonsense timeline but this is definitely the best 'algorithmic' feed I've found so far

Why do so many of the horse-girl demographic listen to Taylor Swift when they could listen to the most pro-horse genre of music: Mongolian Throat Singing

The two greatest evils known to mankind, A.I. and the person directly in front of you in line at the post office, have finally teamed up. We’re done.
Woman in line in front of me at the post office is not happy about the cost of shipping. She just whipped out her phone, asked ChatGPT how much it thinks the shipping should cost, and is trying to get the mailman to honor that price.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

No ambiguity from my German relatives who have been known to open a conversation with "You're looking fat", or my favorite: "Why are you fat?"
I know, whenever someone greets me with "you're looking well", that they mean my weight has changed but it always takes a moment to work out in which direction they mean

the ai bot isn’t “admitting” its secrets to you or “revealing” its creators intentions it’s just a word generating machine generating words the only meaning is that which you read into it and imo that should be none

Yeah, it's just ceding a lot of ground IMO. The worst thing is that there isn't a specific list of forbidden words so people self-censor assuming that i.e. tiktok de-ranks "murder" in the algorithm but somehow hasn't caught on to "unalive" etc
