On this day in 1975, the Edmund Fitzgerald went down on Lake Superior, claiming 29 lives — among them members of @steelworkers.bsky.social.

Last week, we joined with our labor allies to urge the administration not to back down on trade measures that protect America’s shipbuilding industry. Workers have seen what happens when our shipyards are sidelined and our jobs are shipped overseas. We can’t afford to retreat again.

USW brothers Max and Ben Morrissey were recognized for their heroic actions that likely saved many of their coworkers in an accident that claimed their lives at the Toledo Refinery three years ago. The Oregon City Council voted Monday night to name a section of a local avenue in their honor.

Just cause is used in labor arbitration to determine whether an employer has a valid reason for disciplining or terminating an employee. In tomorrow's Teaching Tuesday session, we will discuss the tests to meet the standard of just cause.

He built luxury railcars while exploiting workers. In 1894, he cut wages but kept rents high in his company town. When workers protested, he crushed them—sparking the violent Pullman Strike. Profits over people, every time.
