A Patriot’s Promise: Why real patriots pay taxes, welcome immigrants and tell the truth. Let’s talk about what’s really hurting Britain.

They told us Brexit would bring control. Prosperity. Pride. But what did it really bring?
Higher prices. Longer NHS waiting lists.Fewer teachers More division.

The discussion beneath this post between @alasdairmackenzie.bsky.social @chaipatel.net & @sundersays.bsky.social is really worth reading - much more complex/nuanced than the article could be on this point.
We have already moved on from restricting future migration to proposing mass expulsions of people already here, so it seems optimistic to think reducing numbers will improve the standard of our political debate. All that’s likely to happen is the demands of the far right get ever more extreme

The BBC is a trusted name with broad global appeal - soft power like that allows the U.K. to punch significantly above its weight.
My book about Britain ends with a memory.
Of the first time I ever worked at Broadcasting House as a guest commentator, what that meant to me, and what the BBC means for 🇬🇧’s place in the world.
The idea that the World Service could end is awful, and frankly embarrassing for the British Government.
And another bites the dust?

The BBC World Service will run out of funding in just seven weeks. Its funding arrangement with the Foreign Office finishes at the end of March. There is no plan for what happens next.

This is utter madness.

In 2025/6, the BBC World Service has been funded by £137m from the Foreign Office & £221m from the licence fee.

This is after a 21% (£54.2m) real terms cut since 2022.

The return on this investment in terms of soft power this brings the UK is incalculable.

The Dawlish - Teignmouth railway line feels like the absolute front line of climate adaptation in Britain (a test we are not passing so far).

And yet somehow, somehow, this article manages to go in-depth on the problems with the line without mentioning the climate once. The sea is literally higher!
Fresh fears for South West's rail link in Dawlish after storms
Taxpayer money has flowed into fixing the rail line connecting Cornwall with the rest of the UK - but the elements have other ideas.
