On this day in 1943 aboard the transport ship USS Zeilin, war correspondent Robert L. Sherrod of “Time” magazine prepared for the next day’s landing on Red Beach 2 on the island of Betio (given the codename, Helen) in the Tarawa Atoll in the Gilbert Islands.

Funny this drops on the same day as the Epstein vote.
New: President Donald Trump’s administration is poised to end long-standing whistleblower protections for senior career federal employees, according to draft documents reviewed by Reuters.

NEW: Epstein survivors release the most powerful PSA I have ever seen.

Make this go viral so every member of the House of Representatives sees it.

Omg. @darthbluesky.bsky.social we need a photoshop of pup Rudy on the poster of the Movie Rudy.
This is Rudy. He carried out the perfect heist by remembering the four S's: sleep, sneak, steal, skedaddle. 14/10 (TT: rudyrudyroo)

I have a feeling @swin24.bsky.social is somehow behind this.

RFK Jr. running to get his car. "I've got dibs on the dead guy!"
RFK Jr's response to someone collapsing nearby him was to haul ass out of the room as quickly as possible

I think my updates are done for tonight from the UPS cargo plane crash in Louisville that has killed at least 3 and likely more. Here's our current story, which is likely to change by the morning once more official information comes out.
Multiple dead and injured in UPS plane crash near Louisville airport
Beshear says the UPS plane was bound for Hawaii and contained 220,000 pounds of jet fuel. A shelter in place remains in effect for parts of Louisville.

Orson Welles was just some guy hawking wine to me for a long time.
I think everybody has a “Wallace Shawn from Young Sheldon” — my first one would probably be “Vincent Price, the guy who did the voice of Ratigan in The Great Mouse Detective”

Max Hastings on how Britain didn’t win the war
Alan Allport, in Advance Britannia, shows that Churchill’s hopes of ending the war on British terms were finally dashed — in Italy and in the air — in 1944

Folks. Im going to tell you the greatest triscuits story ever.

A long time ago, my uncle, who was a surly career officer who was in 3 wars, sat down to have some cereal. Some of us were at the table when he took his first bite. Jesus Christ! He takes another bite. Son of a bitch! Third bite.
triscuits with feta, chopped cherry tomatoes and green onions, olive oil, and a little balsamic is such a banger light snack

In 2010, I reconnected on Facebook with an old friend from the early 90s, and we had a nice relationship, which resulted in the birth of my awesome son. It is, in my opinion, the only positive contribution Facebook has ever had. I haven't used Facebook since then.

Every time this shithead says insane stuff like this, someone without health insurance should get to fart in Oprah's mouth.
Dr Oz: "Some of the reasons that premiums are going up is because if you take people who didn't know they had insurance and therefore never put in any claims off the rolls, then you still have people who are charging enough to make up the difference. But I do think there are criminal elements."

There's nothing funnier than having the playing of the National Anthem before a Miami and Florida State game where the song should be a solemn song and each colleges highest degree you can achieve is either meth manufacturing or flipping a Camero into a double wide trailer.

Here's the thing about today's Bluesky topic of peeling off Trump voters. This ain't a VIP club. There's nobody checking a list at the door. These people are grown ass adults, and they can choose to quit being shitheads anytime they desire. If they want in the tent, the doors wide open.

Muhammad Ali. He used to come into the restaurant i was a chef at in Louisville. He would doodle on the linen napkins and sign them and then would gift them to the staff.
Who is the nicest or kindest celebrity you ever met? For me it was Wilson Cruz—I met him at a comic book convention and he was incredibly sweet and humored me while I raved about his various important roles and then he gave me a big hug. He smelled amazing, too.

What is it the children of this country get when they're slaughtered in their schools? Oh yeah, hopes and prayers. Congress can have the same, and we should show them the same sympathies they show the kids. Absolutely none.

Trump literally said "don't even bother dealing with" Democrats to keep the government open, and now he has us barreling towards a government shutdown.

I sure as hell won't be voting to give a blank check to his lawlessness. That's not how this works.
