Libraries are amazing! Go get a card to support your local library and help keep them open!

Oh! And library books are free to borrow, so grab some books while you’re there!

#readmorebooks
Either renew your library card or go get one, please. I don't care how often you'll use it, get one. Librarians can use those numbers to help prove that people use the library and you'll have access to amazing online and in person services. If you don't know what's available, ask a librarian!

Do you know where you can find amazing librarians like this?

At your local public library!

Really. You should go there.

I went to the library to return some books and the librarian gave me a big stack of weaving books someone had donated because I'm always requesting weaving books through the interlibrary loan! 🥹

ICYMI…The Library of Congress doesn’t allow anyone under 16 yo access, and under 18 needs parental consent.

The public can only look at materials on premises.

LOC only lends books to members of Congress, meaning Senators and House Representatives, their staff, and Supreme Court justices.

If you haven’t been in a public library in ages, you should go and see how amazing they are.

Public libraries don’t get the overall credit they deserve in this day and age. They provide so much access to free knowledge and entertainment for people. They are quiet, calm, and soothing. I can sit in one for hours and get lost in different worlds.

I read this book with a local library book club! I bet your local library has a copy too if you want to read it!
It was excellent!

I had the pleasure of hearing @pdjeliclark.bsky.social last year and he's so cool and this book , if you missed it because I had missed it--- fuuuuck pick it up. Also I love love love bringing up "backlist" titles because not everyone reads hundreds of books a year and so many do get missed.
So, I hear ya’ll like #Sinners. might I also humbly suggest…

Seems like a good reason to go to the library!

Sure, I go to the library for books, but also sometimes I go just to exist in a space that's welcoming, organized, comfortable, judgement-free, and run by knowledgeable, helpful, passionate people, because that energy is straight up medicinal.

“Read whatever the hell you want.”

I’m saying this in my capacity as an author and once and future library worker:

Read whatever the hell you want.

I cannot impress enough on you that the “important” books aren’t important if you don’t jive with them. The popular books, the canon, the whatever. Read what you want.

Proof your public library loves you: they leave you alone when you're reading, they love when you bring your kids over, and they'll literally let you borrow any book you want...even their hardcovers

Need information? Need help?
Your local public library is waiting to help you!
What are you waiting for? Go!

Also, they need you too. Now more than ever.

Look, people probably wouldn't be trying to curtail libraries' activities and cut their funding if libraries didn't engage in problematic behaviors like "having information" and "helping people."

Do something super nice for National Library Week…go to the library and check out some books.

Also, call your reps and demand the IMLS be restored.

Please call your representatives. Leave a voicemail if their office is closed. Libraries can’t afford to lose access to library and museum funding. Rural communities will be the hardest hit by this.

NEW — After putting all Institute of Museum & Library Services (IMLS) employees on administrative leave Monday, I'm told DOGE is canceling congressionally-appropriated grants to state libraries across the entire country. Libraries are getting notice that funding was canceled as of 4/1.

My current reading is Solito: A Memoir by Javier Zamora. The memoir tells a story of a nine-year-old boy on his journey from a small town in El Salvador to the United States to reunite with his parents. Hopeful and heartbreaking at the same time.
