I'm Marieke, I write books, comics, and graphic novels. I write about found family, stories within stories, and more often that not about queer and/or disabled main characters. 🌈

For Tolkien fans, a timely passage for No Kings Eve, from WH Auden’s review of Lord of the Rings.

No kid should ever have to protest or advocate for their friends’ basic humanity.

But they’re standing up at No Kings anyway.

It's here eeeeeee eeeee!! 🥰🥰
I'm so excited to dive into book 2 of this amazing series by @mariekeyn.bsky.social! 💖💖
I feel very lucky I discovered book 1 last month so I didn't have to wait long for the sequel 🥰
Disabled AND queer representation are BEAUTIFULLY woven in their series! 💖

Dusting off my account to share that SPLINTER & ASH 2: CITY OF SECRETS is out now!

This series is my love letter to the fantasy adventures that I grew up on, but with a disabled princess and a nonbinary squire taking the lead in the fight to make their wartorn kingdom kinder and fairer. 💙

I'm hoping the algo gets this to the people who need it. If you were at UVU or you saw the video, you should play Tetris. Preferably today. You don't have to be good at it.

Research tells us that playing Tetris after traumatic events helps to disrupt your brain's long term storage of the memory.

I don’t know, peeps, but I just keep coming back around to the idea that what so many people want is a hopeful vision of a better world, with autonomy, dignity, & respect for all, affordability of food/shelter, education, medical care, clean air/water, & a place in a community. That’s the message.

Just finished Splinter & Ash by @mariekeyn.bsky.social and really loved it! The story was full of surprises and the characters were well rounded and relatable. As someone who also tries to fight for a better world for all, I felt very seen ❤️

the kid looks fucking terrified, knows the university will probably punitively hold the diploma they've worked three or four years to get, and also knows people have been disappeared recently by fascists for doing way, way less. still says it! just an incredibly fucking brave person
Here is a clip of the student's speech.

This is what I'm hoping for. Good thread, great context.
This is a choice that will not only continue Francis's outreach work and attempts to place the focus of church life on the force it can be for human rights and dignity, but someone who can manipulate the levers of church politics a lot better and more effectively to that end.

Happy #IndependentBookstoreDay! Visit your favorite local indie! Buy books! (I did too!)

And if you'd like to preorder one of my upcoming books, I have two separate "the world is burning, let's fight [a treacherous conspiracy/the patriarchy] with friendship, trust, and collective action" titles!

Hi I used to work at Starbucks customer service: if you call or email about this, they are absolutely tracking those numbers, and a sufficient amount of public pushback does make them rethink shit sometimes, so now would be an EXCELLENT time to let them know they’re being ableist shitheads

I have had, and continue to have, many conflicts with the church I was raised in. This Pope, though the leader of all that, did many brave and iconoclastic things as the leader in his lifetime. I have more respect for him than most of his peers in power across the globe.
