TR-49 is our best launch, ever, in 14 years.

I admit I'm surprised! Made in 9 months, mostly as an experiment to learn Godot, and an excuse to play with some actors. (And for me to do some acting.)

One thing I think IS cool: it's a "one-sitting" game. 4 hours; $7. No commitment required.

I grabbed TR-49, Inkle's take on The Root Trees are Dead style information game. Aside from some apparent UI bugs (nothing that actually interferes with gameplay), it's seeming like a fun puzzle that'll give the good brain feels.

What are the wildest video game promo events you can remember?

Things like game reviewers being brought out to the gun range to shoot a .50 cal or SAW.

I like that the same day a guy was like “this place will never be Twitter” this thread gave us the most 2015 Twitter experience (complimentary) imaginable.
I just woke up from a nap and somehow while I was asleep, everyone on the bus has figured out we are not going to the right place

In celebration of my Vermis I copy getting delivered, I decided to model a random weapon from the book! The weapon of choice, Dagger of Guilt.

This took around 3 hours to make from modeling and animating to texturing.

People. Do I know anyone at all into drones? My 16yo has had a DJI camera drone for years and I was used to him being extremely competent with it. But he’s been building and softwaring and learning and flying and FPV and it’s hardcore. How do I help him find his people?

Using a combination of glitches in Super Mario World, Yoshi can be taken into the final battle, where he can eat Peach upon Bowser's defeat. With Peach gone, the ending will not play, and Mario and Yoshi will simply stare at each other forever.

Every evening at this time of year the Screaming Tree Frogs gather around the rainwater on our neighbour's water tank to scream at each other.

So as promised I'm gonna talk a bit more about this - I'll start with the basic ideas and general world/character systems, rather than diving into specific mechanics about conflict resolution and plotting and stuff. Can leave that to future threads.

So first, basic premise and structure.

I've been running an indie games studio for 15 years now, and it felt like a good time to boil down what I've learned into 4 pieces of advice:

I hope it's of use, not least because goddamn I forgot how long blog posts take to write.

Game designer Steve Dee @tinstargames.bsky.social unexpectedly passed last week. His last public post is a touching meditation on solidarity.

"The smallest things can still be incredibly powerful...You matter, and if you show up, you can change your fate, or someone else’s. And that is everything.”
Steve Dee, game designer and community builder, has passed away

I am very bad at remembering this place exists. I am very sad about the death of my lovely friend Steve Dee. He helped me with all 3 of my dogs over the years & I had been planning to book a session to find out how best to help Mabel with her upcoming surgeries. Pat a dog in his memory. Here's mine
