Because it’s not getting reported on enough:

Muslim fruit shop owner Ahmed al Ahmed, father of two, was the hero who bravely tackled one of the Bondi Beach shooters and took away his gun.

He saved lives during a major terror attack. Say his name, and honor the lives of the victims of the shooters

We can participate in democracy and be flawed while also having non-negotiable. No nazis. No racists. We aren’t abandoning trans people. Triple the minimum wage. Universal healthcare. Reproductive freedom. Etc etc etc. Stand for something! Appeasement accomplishes very little.

In a letter drawn from a posthumous collection of correspondence, published in 2019, the neurologist Oliver Sacks argued that society had no immunity to the seductions of digital life. “What we are seeing—and bringing on ourselves—resembles a neurological catastrophe on a gigantic scale,” he wrote.

🧵 1/9 It could have mattered.

Nine minutes and twenty-nine seconds deprived of oxygen should have chastened the world to become allies, and not just for a summer.

A man being murdered by those who should protect and serve should have been an indelible metaphor.

This is very interesting (and relevant to my post yesterday about understanding the nuances of various profanities). As a white middle class monolingual English person I’m 100% behind the conclusion.
Eurovision likes to portray itself at the forefront of social inclusion and diversity. However, this year the code-switching/AAVE-origin title of the Maltese song put that to the test and found that these values only go so far.

Middle England's social conservatism and monolingualism won here...
