Tonight we ring out the old year & ring in the new one, with a short pause in the middle so our bellringers can watch the fireworks from the roof.

We've have been busy this week adding additional lighting above the bells so we can make safer progress up to the roof.

Perhaps, as we move into 2026, that we leave "faggot" as a road rage insult in 2025?

Esp on K Rd. Know your history & respect your surroundings. Plus, you're probably overreacting anyway 💕

Wonderful morning of service ringing today. We had 9 and rang doubles of Stedman & Reverse Canterbury, Plain Hunt 7, and triples of Grandsire & Plain Bob.

The church garden is looking particularly lovely today, with a crop of bananas on the way!

Meri Kirihimete from our whānau to yours 💕

We had 10 of us this morning and rang called changes on 8, Stedman Doubles on the back 6, Grandsire Doubles with 7-6-8, and Grandsire Triples.

Easily our favourite night of the year for bellringing! Bells, carols, & decorations, what's not to love?! 🔔

We had 12 tonight, including our two visitors from Honolulu. We rang 8 most of the night, but kept it simple (no thanks from the muggyness) 💕

Men: is it weak to sing christmas carols? If you don't want to sing, that's all cool and all, but why come to a carol service and sit/stand there looking like you're trying to remember who won the ashes the year you got that ticket for parking too far from the curb. At least pretend! Get into it!

A busy & muggy night of bellringing. We had 13 of us, including two visitors from Honolulu 💕

We rang Plain Bob D, m & T; spliced PB & little bob m; Grandsire T; Cambridge Surprise m; and Stedman D & T.

We also had a little festive mood lighting as we were photographed for a story.

NEW: Organ tuners have been leaving temperature and humidity records in little-known books for decades. 🎹

They reveal how temperatures inside churches have changed over time due to climate change and increased heating.

A new scoop for The Reengineer!

Church organ tuning records mirror our warming climate
The records appear to reflect climate change, as well as the increased heating of churches in winter

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

Even though it’s unenforceable, as of today it is illegal to prescribe puberty blockers to a trans child in Aotearoa. We now know that the Ministry recommended against this, that no one asked for it, and no one thought it was a good idea except for cabinet. This ban is a stain on our history.

Oh streaming services. You don't understand us.

"We see you've been enjoying Heated Rivalry. Great news, we have live NFL over the summer and other sports things too"

Yeah, sports wasn't the reason we were watching 😅

Besides, an interest in hockey doesn't necessarily translate over to football!

Today my colleagues and I drank some very lovely wine made by the newly Dr Barry Wong, and I've been advised by my team leader to log off before I start telling people what I really think.

So ngā mihi o te wā y'all.

That's where we are now, peeps.

Landlords and tobacco companies are reportedly doing well, thankfully.

Now, isn't that awfully fucking convenient?
An effect of the changes to the Electoral Act is that a well off, likely right wing voting criminal who was part of the system who gets a home detention sentence for, say, possessing child porn will get to vote next year. A less well connected offender sent to prison for the same crimes won’t #nzpol

Min of Health has decided not to continue with the FluTracking survey each week from next year.

What a ridiculous decision. The cost savings must be minimal

What are our taxes actually used for if not things like public health?

Another great practice night. 14 of us including a visitor. We rang Plain Hunt 7; Plain Bob Doubles & Minor; Grandsire Doubles & Triples; Reverse Canterbury Doubles; Stedman Doubles & Triples; and Cambridge Surprise Minor.

Although, historically, Sam Vimes was nearly always wet, and this made him sad. What he wanted was a drink and a cigar and to dry off in front of a fire (and later on, to be with his wife and son), and wanted bloody stupid people to stop killing other bloody stupid people. Bloody Koom Valley again.
retvrn to mystery stories based around the actual mystery and not whether the detective is sad and/or wet
my favorite thing about the benoit blanc movies is that they aren't really about benoit blanc. he is not grappling with demons from his past. we are not getting flashbacks to the husband whose murder he never solved. he just shows up and does his job like mary poppins for homicides

Our hood of the month, the beautiful Cambridge Bachelor of Music. Historical details are at burgon.org.uk/hood-of-month

Now that the construction mess has cleared, it appears we've entirely lost our pocket park & the footpath has been narrowed on Lorne St. All so we can fit parking for 3-4 cars. Too bad that we got to eat there so happily for so many years 😕

@ccrg.bsky.social is this permanent?
