Why am I such a fan of Abigail Spanberger? Because she embodies everything I love and respect in politicians.

A thread:

The best politicians are public servants. Spanberger did two hard and risky jobs for the Republic. She was federal law enforcement with USPIS, and she was a CIA officer overseas.
I can count the number of legislative Dems who endorsed Levar Stoney on one hand.

And when Levar dropped out, none of them stepped up to run or found someone else. The efforts to draft Bobby Scott were a farce.

It's as easy to lob criticism online, harder to get off the couch and run.
I don’t think Brian wanted Spanberger to be the dem nominee for gov in 2025. Neither did most of the real Dems in the Virginia legislature.

1961 was the last Virginia gubernatorial election under the Byrd Machine, before the 24th amendment ended poll taxes.

In other words, Abigail has the biggest win for any Democrat running for governor, since black people could vote again.

Arguably the biggest win for any Dem in a free election.
Fun facts

Abigail Spanberger got biggest win for a Dem in Virginia Governor election since 1961

Ghazala Hashmi got biggest win for Dem in Virginia Lt. Governor election since 1965

Virginia Dems won most seats in Virginia House of Delegates since 1987

And now it's official, official. AP is slower on the draw than DDHQ, but they're news organization of record on this.
BREAKING: The Associated Press has called the Virginia governor’s race in Democrat Abigail Spanberger’s favor, as of 8:00 p.m.

Twenty minutes after the polls closed. Amazing. History made.
They called it! Abigail Spanberger won the Virginia gubernatorial race!

Just saw this actually. Both of the campus precincts are going to exceed 2024 numbers. Falls Church City is at like, 85% of 2024 numbers. Alexandria City is up there.

It's going to be a great night for Abigail and the Commonwealth.
🚨🚨

Chaz just now on his live YouTube. One of the voting sites in Blacksburg, VA (home of Virginia Tech) officially has more votes than 2024 Presidential.

I cannot stress how insane that is.

Spanberger talks about her single-minded focus. Like, running for almost 2 years, and just hammering the affordability issue at the exclusion of everything else.

Also she represented 2 different parts of the state because of redistricting, giving her play in 2 media markets for years.
I do think *what* makes Spanberger a better candidate is a good question, since on paper, she and Sherrill share similar profiles and voting records.

Contrast this crowd, with Marco Rubio bursting the rafters in 2016. Same room.

Half these people are probably Dems now. The type of people and areas that were stoked to support Rubio then, either because they liked who he was or because he was a Trump obstacle, were big realigners in 17/18.

Straight into my veins.
New Virginia poll from State Navigate

Spanberger with big lead

Notably relatively less ticket splitting for LG and AG than most polls

Jones is up in AG race

Plausible he wins if Spanberger wins by 13%but big if

There will be Federal Fallout pod out soon

Great to see her using these skills.

This was in the Arlandia neighborhood, right on the border of Arlington County. The Salvadoran community there deserves more attention from NoVA politicos.

First we elect this ticket, then we purge all the fascists, then we give statehood to DC, Puerto Rico, Greenland, and Free Cuba.
I will add that the Spanberger-Sherrill or Sherrill-Spanberger ticket in 2028 will be lit. (Once you both win next week, do let me know how you're working out the order.)

This is so good. All all the campaign stop videos I've seen this year, I think this is the best.
Virginia, this election is about her future — and the future of our Commonwealth.

Love to see this earned media.

God I wish I could be in Virginia for this campaign, instead of having to view it from overseas.

I laughed out loud. Bolling is hit or miss as a pundit, but this was good.
Pretty blunt assessment from former GOP Lt. Governor Bill Bolling

Hard to imagine “reverse coattails” was ever going to be a thing

A combination of the economy and Trump are what most voters think about

Earle-Sears has not particularly talked about either one

Headline/article disconnect from the AP here. Abigail rightly points out that we should do step one now and see where we're at in January.

AP did her a disservice by stripping out the nuance.

Nice 2 minute video of a current and future governor just vibing on the campaign bus, talking about Wawa orders.

I love this classic campaign stuff. I want to elect likable, relatable, inspiring people to executive office. It's part of the job.

This is the hope, but I won't feel bad if she gets an 8-point win and underperforms the Northam margin. People are more polarized than ever.

Also, Winsome's focus on trans fear-mongering seems like a solid way to lock in her GOP base, even as the swing voters are turned off.
And for governor, the benchmark is Ralph Northam's 9-point win over Ed Gillespie in 2017; hopefully Abigail Spanberger can beat that, given that she's running against a weaker candidate than Gillespie AND we've had DOGE, etc. this time. bluevirginia.us/2025/10/vide...

They finally counted my ballot. It took a full month for it to get to me overseas and then return to Virginia.

This slow mail system makes me skeptical of GOP statements about limiting the early voting window.
October 24, 2025 at 9:08 PM
Message discipline is on point. Just economics and Winsome being weird. No comments on anything else in the news.

It's gonna get Abigail to a high single digits victory at least.

Then we rest for a day or two and prepare for more fights to come.
There's no word-twisting necessary, Winsome Earle-Sears. Your extreme positions are as clear as day.

See this is interesting, because Spanberger is very much a Central Virginian. Loves talking about being raised in Henrico, going to UVA, moving back there, etc. She was only elected to an outer NoVA seat for one term, after the '22 redistricting.
NoVA loves a Langley gal. It is what it is. You run who can win in the area.

Watched this online.

Pete's still got it. Quoted Jefferson, roasted the administration, appealed to history, etc.

Abigail is laser focused on her message. Making Virginia work, making sure we have good jobs, good schools, housing, etc. Got a lot of applause, but avoided some obvious red meat.

More electricity generation, including nuclear.

More housing, by removing governmental barriers to build.

Abigail is the Abundance candidate.
Virginia deserves a Governor who will focus on lowering costs. I am prepared to do just that — from housing, to healthcare, to utility bills.
