Time to update the sprite and see what I would differently than I would in the past. The original 2015 keeps all the jank of the SMW game, 2023 is the one I used for Super Bowser World, and 2026 is something I made today.

more modern rpgs should use fixed perspective prerendered/painted art for introducing major setpieces to the player. highly deliberate angles, lighting, scale, and details can really sell the initial visuals and set tone, making you recall them every time theyre referred to

Actually looked up the other difficulties in Mother 2 Deluxe 3.0
They straight up disable any of the new stuff if you play on any difficulty lower than the "intended" difficulty
